Glenn Beck was investigated recently by the Secret Service for apparent threats to Donald Trump. The talk show host apparently had his comments misreported and thus became subject of the investigation. It is routine procedure for the Secret Service to investigate threats against the President or others under their protection.
Mr. Trump, as the GOP Presidential front runner has been receiving Secret Service protection for a couple months now, and the Secret Service chose to investigate this threat, from another conservative voice. According to The Blaze:
Agents even visited TheBlaze’s studios in Dallas on Friday, according to Beck.
During his radio show live from CPAC on Friday, Beck was talking about sitting in the “shoes” of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s rivals when his producer, Stu Burguiere, hit him with a mocking comment.
“Was it gigantic shoes?” Burguiere joked.
“If I was close enough and I had a knife. Really. I mean the stabbing just wouldn’t stop,” Beck said, directing the comment at Burguiere, who was joining Beck on the air from Dallas.
Several news websites initially interpreted the remark as a threat against Trump himself and published stories with attention-grabbing headlines. The reports were eventually corrected after publication, but the story quickly spread across the Internet.
Burguiere attempted to clear up the confusion in a Facebook post on Friday:
“It was reported that Glenn had threatened to stab a presidential candidate this morning which was odd since I was on the show with him and didn’t notice anything like that… Of course, if you were listening, you know that Glenn actually threatened me, not Donald Trump, so I am in the odd situation of defending my boss for threatening my life.”
Nonetheless, because the Secret Service is protecting Trump, they have launched an investigation into the matter.
What’s interesting is that the Secret Service is choosing to investigate another conservative voice, but Facebook has not taken down a “Kill Donald Trump” page for months, nor has it been reported that the Secret Service has followed up on this threat.
It seems the Secret Service will investigate conservatives and anything not consistent with the liberal agenda. Why misconstrued comments by Glenn Beck, but not a direct threat on a Facebook page? Perhaps time will tell.
