Virginia Democrat Senator Tim Kaine has remained largely silent since his devastating defeat alongside tarnished presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, where he lost the vice presidency as her running mate.
Following the election, Kaine returned to the Senate ready to get back to work in upholding the liberal policies of the Obama/Clinton era.
But now Kaine is back in the spotlight – and once again not in a good way.
Following a rally in support of President Trump – the “March 4 Trump” took place on March 4th in Minnesota – Kaine’s youngest son was arrested.
The Washington Post reports:
Police said he was among about 50 counter-protesters who clashed with pro-Trump demonstrators Saturday afternoon at the Minnesota State Capitol, where a crowd of about 400 had gathered in the rotunda to listen to speeches in support of the new president.
Tensions were already running high when someone threw a smoke bomb into the audience, striking a woman in the head, local media reported. Others set off fireworks in the building, sending people running and prompting security guards to intervene. At one point, someone reportedly sprayed what police called a “chemical irritant” into the crowd, causing people to cough and scatter out of the room.
Linwood “Woody” Kaine was taken into custody under charges of rioting in the second-degree at the counter-protest taking place in opposition to Trump.
Given his father’s history and politics, it may come as no surprise that the younger Kaine isn’t a Trump supporter, but it appears that Linwood Kaine was participating with a more aggressive group of protestors among a mostly peaceful protest.
Newsmax reported on Senator Kaine’s statement following his son’s arrest:
He said his three children, “all understand that in expressing your views you have an obligation to do it peacefully, and I’m confident that that’s what happened. We love that our three children have their own views and concerns about current political issues. They fully understand the responsibility to express those concerns peacefully,” the statement read.
Linwood Kaine’s actions, however, did not match his father’s expectation of his character.
The Washington Post reports:
…Kaine ran from the scene and was arrested down the street from the building, along with four others suspected to have lit fireworks. Kaine resisted the arresting officer, who had to use “some force” to take him into custody, Linders said.
“He turned around and squared up to fight with the officer,” Linders said. “The officer was able to place Mr. Kaine under arrest and take him to the Ramsey County jail for booking.”
Kaine was released from custody on Tuesday, and it remains to be seen what charges will be filed.
Following Tim Kaine’s devastating defeat due to his alliance with one of the most dishonest presidential candidates in history, the arrest of his son may just be another nail in the coffin for the future of the Kaine family.
