Democrats and the media smell blood.
The resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn gave them a victory over Donald Trump.
And now they are trying to parlay it into a scandal that could finish Trump politically.
Flynn resigned after reporters and intelligence community officials engineered a coordinated hit job of leaks to damage his standing in the White House.
While Flynn had discussed sanctions with Russian ambassador in a December 29th phone call, he never broke the law nor discussed the sanctions in anything but general terms.
But Flynn agreed with Trump that Russia could be an ally in the fight against ISIS and should not be treated as an enemy.
So Obama loyalists and deep-state hawks smeared him with leaks until the pressure reached a level that forced him to resign.
Now Democrats are latching on to this in attempt to resurrect the “Trump is a puppet of Russia” meme they unsuccessfully tried to spread during the Presidential election.
Democrats are now demanding hearings on Flynn’s connections to Russia in the hope that a fishing expedition will ensnare the Trump administration in a massive scandal.
Flynn’s departure only matters if 1) he’s followed by a mainstream, experienced replacement, 2) we get to bottom of the Trump/Russia story.

Resignation of NSC advisor Flynn raises as many questions as it answers. Patriotism demands allegiance to U.S. not it’s adversary, Russia

General Flynn’s resignation is a step in the right direction. But many questions remain.

The Hill also reports that top Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are demanding hearings on the matter:
“Reps. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) and Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) – the ranking members of the Judiciary and Oversight committees, respectively – called for a classified briefing for Congress regarding former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn after his abrupt resignation Monday night.
“We were shocked and dismayed to learn this evening of reports that three weeks ago, U.S. law enforcement officials warned the White House Counsel that General Flynn had provided false information to the public about his communications with the Russian government, but that the Trump Administration apparently did nothing about it,” the two said in a statement.
“The reality is General Flynn was unfit to be the National Security Advisor, and should have been dismissed three weeks ago.
“Now, we in Congress need to know who authorized his actions, permitted them, and continued to let him have access to our most sensitive national security information despite knowing these risks. We need to know who else within the White House is a current and ongoing risk to our national security,” the statement continued.”
Far from forcing his critics to back down, Flynn’s resignation has only heightened Democrats lust for scandal.
