The Clinton Foundation, led by former Democratic leaders Bill and Hillary, has been the subject of several federal investigations at this point.
While the Foundation has so far been able to hide behind their unscrupulous political connections and money, the FBI is determined once more to bring the corrupt organization down.
Once more, the Justice Department has launched an inquiry into whether or not the Clinton Foundation abused its political connections–and it may finally be the nail in the coffin for the Clintons.
The FBI has launched a new investigation into whether the Clinton Foundation engaged in pay-to-play politics and/or bribery scandals while Hillary Clinton served as Secretary of State.
FBI agents in Little Rock, Arkansas are taking the lead, as the capital city is the origin and headquarters of the Foundation.
So far, officials have interviewed at least one person since the investigation was made public earlier this week.
Law enforcement officials promise that more witnesses will be interviewed as well, in the hopes of exposing corrupt practices within the Foundation.
The Hill reported:
The officials, who spoke only on condition of anonymity, said the probe is examining whether the Clintons promised or performed any policy favors in return for largesse to their charitable efforts or whether donors made commitments of donations in hopes of securing government outcomes.
The probe may also examine whether any tax-exempt assets were converted for personal or political use and whether the foundation complied with applicable tax laws, the officials said.
One witness recently interviewed by the FBI described the session to The Hill as “extremely professional and unquestionably thorough” and focused on questions about whether donors to Clinton charitable efforts received any favorable treatment from the Obama administration on a policy decision previously highlighted in media reports.
The witness discussed his interview solely on the grounds of anonymity. He said the agents were from Little Rock and their questions focused on government decisions and discussions of donations to Clinton entities during the time Hillary Clinton led President Obama’s State Department.
So far, Clinton’s chief spokesperson Nick Merrill has taken an offensive countermeasure to the reopening of the investigation.
Merrill referred to the probe as “disgraceful”, and tried to explain it away as a political distraction tactic.
The Hill continued:
“Let’s call this what it is: a sham,” Merrill said. “This is a philanthropy that does life-changing work, which Republicans have tried to turn into a political football. It began with a now long-debunked project spearheaded by Steve Bannon during the presidential campaign. It continues with Jeff Sessions doing Trump’s bidding by heeding his calls to meddle with a department that is supposed to function independently.”
Another Clinton spokesperson took the less aggressive route, yet vehemently denied any foul play in their organization. Instead, Craig Minassian tried to use the Clinton Foundation’s cover-up practice as an excuse-charity.
The Hill continued:
“Time after time, the Clinton Foundation has been subjected to politically motivated allegations, and time after time these allegations have been proven false. None of this has made us waver in our mission to help people,” Minassian said. “The Clinton Foundation has demonstrably improved the lives of millions of people across America and around the world while earning top ratings from charity watchdog groups in the process.”
Though this investigation is in its beginning stages, a solid case has already been made from previous attempts at outing the Clinton family.
The Wall Street Journal reported last year that FBI officials in Little Rock had been following suspicious activities in the Clinton Foundation for more than a year. One report claimed there had been pushback to the FBI as well.
Media like the Daily Caller and the New York Times, though representing completely opposing political views, have followed the story as well–and evidence from both sides is quickly piling against Bill and Hillary.
For now, a new investigation into the Clinton family business simply renews focus on outing political corruption–something President Trump promised Congress last year.
