The richest and most feared villain in left-wing politics is donating a massive sum of cash to influence the 2016 race for President of the United States, according to federal election reports.
George Soros, estimated to be worth almost $25 billion, has decided to spend at least $25 million to ensure that Hillary Clinton wins at the ballot box on election day in November. The self-described socialist billionaire is also helping Democrats up-and-down the ballot across the country.
Those figures don’t even include the numerous radical leftist organizations and non-profit groups that directly receive funding from Soros. Some of those groups include Black Lives Matter, the infamous radical black supremacy organization that is targeting law enforcement and spreading anti-cop rhetoric.
This is the first time since 2004 that Soros has gone on such a big spending spree to influence the race for the presidency. During 2004, the socialist billionaire spent $27 million to upend George Bush’s re-election campaign.
Soros made his first billion dollars in a high-risk gamble when he bet against the British pound decades ago. He’s been highly criticized across the globe for making his fortune off betting on the fate and direction of manipulated currencies.
News reports indicated that the 85-year-old Hungarian would attend the Democratic National Convention in honor of Hillary Clinton receiving the presidential nomination. However, one of his spokesmen said that he has decided not to attend.
That move may prove beneficial, since it would draw unwanted publicity to the relationship between Soros and Clinton. Supporters of Bernie Sanders have long criticized “big money” and billionaires entering the political arena and influencing the outcome of elections. So if Hillary is to successfully try to court the Bernie Sanders movement, it would be wise to avoid Soros in the public spotlight.
Other leftist elite billionaires are joining the fray and dumping in massive amounts of money this election cycle. Radical environmentalist Tom Steyer has donated $31 million in 2016, Don Sussman has donated $13.2 million, and “media moguls” Haim Saban and Fred Eychaner have each donated $11.1 million.
Regardless of the size of the check, none of those leftist elites will have a comparable effect to Soros’ on the election.
Democrats and globalists are celebrating the fact that the socialist billionaire is spending millions to prop up Clinton’s candidacy. The move adds confidence in donor circles that Clinton can compete with Trump’s campaign.
Some reports suggest that Soros has reengaged in politics for fear of Donald Trump becoming president. The socialist billionaire has accused Trump of “doing the work of ISIS.”
The attack by Soros on Trump has reinforced the viewpoint that Trump’s campaign is the only force in national politics that can take on globalist policies and figures like Soros himself.
Michael Vachon, one of the top advisors to Soros, says that he, “has been a consistent donor to Democratic causes, but this year the political stakes are exceptionally high.”
“They were high even before Trump became the nominee because of the hostility on the other side toward many of the issues George cares most about and has worked to support for many years, including immigration reform, criminal justice reform and religious tolerance.”
Regardless of Soros’ motivations, he is highly engaged in this year’s election, and if he keeps up this spending spree, conservatives across the board may have trouble keeping up.
