Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, is at it again. She promises to assault Freedom of Speech provided for in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
In a video released July 16, 2016, Clinton proclaims:
“I will propose a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.”
Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission is a Constitutional law case dealing with the regulation of campaign spending by organizations. The United States Supreme Court held that Freedom of Speech prohibited the government from restricting independent political expenditures by a non-profit corporation.
Currently, if an individual or business donates to a non-profit, those donations are kept private in order to protect Freedom of Speech.
Numerous court decisions over the last century have confirmed and reconfirmed that political speech is protected from regulation.
There is a loud battle cry from politicians who don’t want their transgressions to be discussed at election time, and it’s usually from those hiding a multitude of sins.
Like Hillary Clinton.
The Clinton campaign in a recent statement said they seek to “challenge the stranglehold that wealthy interests have over our political system.”
Rather hypocritical coming from someone who is engaged in unethical business practices by hiding the names of funders for her husband’s speaking fees for speeches about political issues.
So-called “ethics reform” bills have popped up in states across the nation. The bills are designed to crush the grassroots and silence them during election season.
The bills are designed to remove an individual’s right to speak anonymously by forcing organizations to release their private information to a government monitoring agency for all to see.
In other words, politicians would have an “enemies list” to go after.
If passed, these laws would secure the power of the political class by ensuring the voters cannot learn of a politician’s voting record, and the laws are designed to undermine work being done to expose corruption and conflicts of interest.
The bills have been largely unsuccessful in the states due to the outcry from grassroots organizations, so presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton wants to muzzle you for good by overturning the whole Constitutional law case and the Supreme Court decision.
If Clinton were elected president, and she and her cronies were successful at overturning Citizens United, the nation would be silenced.
And that silence would be deafening.
