House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is a firm advocate against many Republican policies, including immigration reform.
When President Trump announced his plan to redact the DACA Act, Pelosi became belligerent.
As a result, Pelosi has been causing trouble for President Trump’s legislation to be pushed in the House—and is causing a rift in Congress that may cause them to work past their break in December.
Last week, Pelosi swore she would not support a bill to be passed in December that did not include a fixed amount for DACA recipients.
At a weekly press briefing, Pelosi explained her reasoning for once again combating the President’s efforts for immigration reform and budget passing.
A reporter prompted her with the question in response to Paul Ryan’s statement on the future of the DACA Act.
Ryan declared that Democrats would have to wait until March to pass a spending bill on DACA—leading Pelosi to belligerently say Democrats wouldn’t let that happen.
I have to see what the spending bill is. But I fully intend that we will not leave here without the Dream Act passing, with a DACA fix, and I’ve made that very clear. I don’t even want to go into the mistake that the President made. What a disservice, a slap in the face to the DREAMers that the President gave.
But I think the President does respect ‑‑ I think President Trump does respect the fact that the DREAMers have the support of over 80 percent of the American people, and that’s why he would be interested in getting something done. We’re not kicking the can down to March.
Pelosi has been under fire by even her own supporters in recent months for failing to come through on the promises she has made.
In September, Nancy Pelosi left visibly shaken after protesters at a DACA rally called her out for her lies regarding the DACA Act.
NBC News reported:
After smiling and occasionally trying to speak through much of the protest, an aggravated Pelosi told the protesters to “just stop it, now.”
The group cut off planned speeches from DACA recipients who joined Pelosi at the event.
Protesters accused Pelosi and other democrats of deporting undocumented immigrants, asking for protection for 11 million undocumented immigrants across the country. They chanted: “Shut down ICE” and “All of us or none of us.”
“Democrats created an out-of-control deportation machine,” the protesters yelled. “Democrats are not the resistance to Trump.”
“You’re fighting deportation,” the group asked, over and over again.
“Yes, I’m, yes, I’m,” Pelosi responded.
“You’re a liar, you’re a liar,” protesters said, attacking her about her efforts to stop deportation.
“You don’t know what you’re taking about,” a visibly upset Pelosi responded.
“It’s clear you don’t want any answers,” Pelosi told the group. “It’s clear.”
With lack of support from her constituents, as well as the majority of the House, Pelosi may be on her last legs as a political figure— especially if she does plan to halt Congress’ break coming in December.
