Conservatives seem to get nervous the last year of a Democratic President, fearing the possibility of suspended elections and the sitting President deciding to stick around beyond their term.
Such are the fears that when Obama told a little girl sad about him leaving office on Facebook, that the President reassured her that “I’m not going anywhere.” This exchange caused conservative hearts to skip a beat and double check what the President was referring to. According to The Blaze:
President Barack Obama caught wind of the viral video showing a little girl crying when she learned Obama is leaving office next January — and he sent a message to her Saturday on the same Facebook page where her video is posted.
Obama, writing to the girl’s grandmother Caprina D. Harris, said “tell her to dry her tears, because I’m not going anywhere.”
“Once I leave the White House, I’ll still be a citizen just like her,” Obama continued. “And when she grows up, she can get involved right alongside me. In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye out for her letter, and we’ll always get to celebrate our birthdays together!”
It’s easy to read into the President’s comments, but at least in this exchange, it seems innocent enough, with the President assuring a little girl that he will still be around – just not, presumably, in the Oval Office.
While it’s scary to think of a 3rd or perpetual Obama term, let’s just hope this was an innocent phrase uttered from compassion.
