Oklahoma Teacher Tells Students All White People Are Racist

A teacher in Norman, Oklahoma was teaching students about the racial divide when he came out claiming, “All white people are racist.”

The teacher is James Coursey, who teaches at Norman North High School.

One student was so stunned by what she was hearing, she pulled out her cell phone and recorded the whole matter.

In the recording, the teacher clearly states, “To be white is to be racist, period.”

The Daily Caller reports:

The video continues, capturing the teacher asking, “Am I racist? And, I say yeah. I don’t want to be. It’s not like I choose to be racist, but do I do things because of the way I was raised?”

The student who recorded the ordeal was offended because her family is largely Hispanic, though she identifies as white.

The Daily Caller reports:

You start telling someone something over and over again that’s an opinion, and they start taking it as fact,” the student told KFOR. “So, I wanted him to apologize and make it obvious and apparent to everyone that was his opinion.”

The high school’s superintendent, Dr. Joe Siano, released a statement following his awareness of the video.

The Daily Caller reports:

Racism is an important topic that we discuss in our schools. While discussing a variety of philosophical perspectives on culture, race and ethics, a teacher was attempting to convey to students in an elective philosophy course a perspective that had been shared at a university lecture he had attended. We regret that the discussion was poorly handled. When the district was notified of this concern it was immediately addressed. We are committed to ensuring inclusiveness in our schools.”

Many parents have lashed out against the supposed discrimination made by the teacher, calling for his termination.

However, some students walked out of school on Tuesday in protest to Coursey’s potential legal issues regarding the matter.

The Daily Caller reports:

“What has been reported in the news doesn’t accurately portray what happened in our philosophy class, nor does it reflect what we believe in at our school,” said a student who organized the demonstration and participated in the lecture but was not identified by the district. “The information was taken out of context and we believe it is important to have serious and thoughtful discussions about institutional racism in order to change history and promote inclusivity.”

It is not yet known whether the teacher will face termination or not, though Superintendent Joe Siano feels the situation could have been handled better.

The teacher has not given a statement regarding his actions, but based on the recording, it seems his generalization was born out of opinion rather than fact.

What are your thoughts? Was the teacher out of line to call all white people racist? Or is it his constitutional right to speak his mind?

This seems to be the norm today. White people try to work with diversity to benefit all, but this is the thanks we get. I AM white, proud of my heritage, and have never felt racist until it has been turned against us. Everyone should have equal opportunities, but You HAVE to work for them just as we whites have had to. Nothing in life is free, someone has to pay for it.

It just does not matter, Whites will still be considered bigots no matter what they do. Perhaps if we all just committed mass suicide Blacks would be happy.

Obama is half white. Does that make him half racist?

    • William Shook

He has denied the white half of his family repeatedly! He says over and over that America hates him because he is black. He has demonstrated his disdain for Israel!

this is not only retarded, but it is very wrong. I know for a fact also that other races are racist, I would raise holy hell towards any teacher that would try to teach this t me children. This is the whole problem with the who racial issue.
