The Democrat Senator Harry Reid of Nevada is headed for retirement, and as we’ve seen with President Barack Obama, when politicians near the end of their term, they speak openly and unapologetically.
Recently, Reid bragged how he bullied executives of energy companies with threats of bankruptcy if they continued to build coal plants.
Harry said at a luncheon to NV Energy,
“A number of years ago…I learned they were going to build four to five new coal fire generating plants in Nevada. Why? Because it’s pristine.”
Although his staff apparently cautioned the senator not to be transparent about this particular subject, Reid ignored their requests and continued to bluntly discuss his cruel behavior.
Harry Reid continued by saying:
“I called two of the companies that built plants there and I told them go ahead and do it, but I am going to do everything to hurt investments in your company. So they decided perhaps—decided to get rid of the coal plants.”
And later Reid boasted:
“There’s only one coal fire plant left in Nevada and that’s on its way out too. So we’re making progress in Nevada.”
He said all this to a Nevada energy company. That is not only a savage mind-set but ludicrously audacious.
The Judicial Watch commented on Reid’s—a green energy leftist—recent abysmal behavior and nepotism:
“In 2012 Reid made JW’s corrupt politician list because he was embroiled in an influence-peddling scandal involving a Chinese “green energy” client of a Nevada law firm run by his son Rory.
The senator was one of the Nevada projects most prominent advocates, helping recruit the company during a 2011 trip to China and applying his political muscle on its behalf, according to a mainstream news report.
Reid’s son was an attorney at the prominent Las Vegas firm that represented the Chinese Company, ENN Energy Group, and helped it locate a 9,000-acre desert site for well below its appraised value from Clark County.”
So not only is he outsourcing energy jobs to a Chinese company and stabbing the American people in the back, but it also seems he only had one person on his mind, that person being his son.
Even worse, according to Reuters, in 2012 Reid forced NV Energy to be ENN’s first customer:
In the July 30 discussion, Reid said the project ‘would start tomorrow if NV Energy would purchase the power.’ The utility controls ‘95 percent of all of the electricity that is produced in Nevada and they should go along with this.’
The power company responded by saying it had exceeded its minimum renewable energy requirements both last year and this year, though it would consider buying power from ENN in the future. A spokesman for NV Energy declined to discuss the matter further.
What do you think of Harry Reid’s despicable behavior towards American energy companies?
