The media declared war on President Trump.
But unlike other Republicans, Trump and his administration are fighting back.
And part of that effort included Trump and his chief strategist sending a stunning message to the media.
Trump’s first week in office has seen an unprecedented media assault to damage the new administration.
One reporter falsely claimed Trump moved the bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. out of the Oval Office in a politically-motivated smear to paint Trump as a racist.
The Washington Post ran a fake news story claiming State Department senior management resigned as part of a wave of career foreign policy officials refusing to work for Trump.
These media hit-jobs were piled upon the coverage from the campaign where the media assumed the role of Hillary Clinton surrogate, and the transitions where multiple fake news stories were published about Russian hacking in order to delegitimize the Trump Administration.
But Trump and his team are fighting back.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump ripped the media coverage and singled out the so-called “journalist” who claimed he moved the Martin Luther King, Jr. bust.
Trump stated that it was a “very serious charge” because it wasn’t that they said the bust had been taken out, but “what they’re saying is that I’m a racist.”
POTUS would also claim that “when it was revealed that they were very wrong, nobody even talks about it.” He later added that he “had great respect for Dr. Martin Luther King.”
But that was just the warm-up.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon unloaded on the media, calling them the “opposition party” and ripping them for getting nothing right during the campaign.
The New York Times reports:
Just days after President Trump spoke of a “running war’’ with the media, his chief White House strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, ratcheted up the attacks, arguing that news organizations had been “humiliated” by the election outcome and repeatedly describing the media as “the opposition party” of the current administration.
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” Mr. Bannon said in an interview on Wednesday.
“I want you to quote this,” Mr. Bannon added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the President of the United States.”
Bannon continued his blistering critique of the biased news media.
The Times also reports:
Speaking by telephone on Wednesday, Mr. Bannon delivered a broad indictment of the news media as being biased against Mr. Trump and out of touch with the American public. That is an argument familiar to readers of Breitbart and followers of personalities friendly to Mr. Trump, like Sean Hannity of Fox News.
“The elite media got it dead wrong, 100 percent dead wrong,” Mr. Bannon said of the election, calling it “a humiliating defeat that they will never wash away, that will always be there.”
“The mainstream media has not fired or terminated anyone associated with following our campaign,” Mr. Bannon said. “Look at the Twitter feeds of those people: They were outright activists of the Clinton campaign.” (He did not name specific reporters or editors.)
“That’s why you have no power,” he added. “You were humiliated.”
Conservatives cheered as Bannon described the media for what it was – a bunch of partisans with press passes who lost all credibility during the campaign by morphing into an apparatus of the Clinton campaign.
