Twitter Purges All “Alt-Right” Accounts

Exactly one week after the Trump victory on Election Day, Twitter has issued a mass purging of all “alternate right” accounts.

The alternate right movement is better referred to as the “alt-right”, which is a movement characterized by individuals with far-right ideologies who reject mainstream conservatism.

Breitbart News reports:

The alternative right, more commonly known as the alt-right is an amorphous movement.

One of the most important accounts deleted was that of Richard Spencer, president of the National Policy Institute, a think-tank for alt-right ideals.

The account was a verified account with the username @RichardBSpencer.

The Daily Caller reports:

“This is corporate Stalinism,” Richard Spencer told The Daily Caller News Foundation. “Twitter is trying to airbrush the Alt Right out of existence. They’re clearly afraid. They will fail!”

The National Policy Institute’s personal account was also deleted, as were several of its media outlets.

The Daily Caller reports:

Not only did Twitter kill Spencer’s personal account, but Twitter also suspended the National Policy Institute’s official account (@npiamerica) and its online magazine (@RadixJournal), in addition to a separate book publishing company run by Spencer called Washington Summit Publishers (@washsummit).

The ban was issued on the same day Richard Spencer appeared on The Daily Show and NPR.

Many followers of the alt-right account were outraged at the deletion and tried to understand the justifications behind the purge.

Various other alt-right Twitter users were deleted as well, including those of Pax Dickinson, Ricky Vaughn and John Rivers — all notable alt-right accounts.

The move by Twitter to remove some of the more radical conservative viewpoints is a devastating act of oppression on social media.

The use of Twitter and other social media sites were key in campaigning for the election by all candidates, and the winner used social media frequently, be it by Donald Trump himself or by watchful conservative groups.

Twitter also issued a survey considering “hate crimes” or “racial bias” the same day the accounts were deleted.

The Daily Caller reports:

Several Twitter users noted that the mass bans could be a result of new reporting features the company added to prevent “hate against a race, religion, gender, or orientation,” as part of a policy change.

Twitter has shown restrictive behavior such as this in the past, but the largely unprecedented move by the group was uncalled for in this case.

Twitter issued a response to the outcry against the purge, claiming it was cracking down on hateful behaviors.

The Daily Caller reports:

Our hateful conduct policy prohibits specific conduct that targets people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. Today we’re giving you a more direct way to report this type of conduct for yourself, or for others, whenever you see it happening. This will improve our ability to process these reports, which helps reduce the burden on the person experiencing the abuse, and helps to strengthen a culture of collective support on Twitter.

What are your thoughts? Is this purging of conservative accounts something to be worried about? Or is it simply the media platform trying to protect itself against backlash?

The alt right is. Nationalist organization that receives its funding from foreign governments to undermine our government. They never have a solution. Only lies and misinformation. They should be investigated. But trump will make them the new ministers of propaganda for the US.

Give your 100% accurate source for this utterance or withdraw it. — It is utterly false to print that : “Trump will make them the new ministers of propaganda for the US”.

I think you’ll agree that 100% is not real.
But when the head of brietbart misinformation is the WH chief counsel. 99% is probably close right.

Accurate source…lol. You should be asking the republican shill that wrote this propaganda

You said ..”But trump will make them the new ministers of propaganda for the US”. Care to bet? Never happen. Mr. Trump is too savvy to touch them. Your failure to capitalize the president-elect’s name puts you into the poor type posters who still refer to president 43 as Bushito or worse. I trump your statement by calling HRC “four-eyes”. Makes more sense.
