President Trump has been forced to deal with leftist protesters and antagonists since he took office.
But this latest call to attack Trump is coming from a rogue leader within his own base.
In fact, this massive religious organization, who rallied behind Trump from the beginning, has now been exploited by an influential enemy leader who is determined to take down President Trump.
But instead of acting as a lone ranger, this leader is rallying his members to disrupt President Trump and undermine his policies.
In a 20-minute rant, Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego accused President Trump of being a “disruptor” and instructed his audience to “all become disruptors” in order to stop Trump’s actions.
Realizing the weight his words have within the Catholic Church, he took full advantage of the opportunity to make a divisive political speech.
“We must disrupt those who would seek to send troops into our streets to deport the undocumented, to rip mothers and fathers from their families,” McElroy said. “We must disrupt those who portray refugees as enemies, rather than our brothers and sisters in terrible need. We must disrupt those who train us to see Muslim men and women and children as sources of fear rather than as children of God.”
We must disrupt those who seek to rob our medical care, especially from the poor. We must disrupt those who would take even food stamps and nutrition assistance from the mouths of children,” he said.
The crowd of nearly 700 “community organizers and social justice ‘protagonistas’” interrupted the bishop’s address nearly two dozen times with cheers and applause.”
San Diego is known to be one of the most liberal cities in America, and Bishop McElroy’s speech further confirmed that narrative.
With a bitterly divided nation, Bishop McElroy could have used his speaking opportunity to bring people together, and perhaps even encourage them to pray to God on how to navigate the uncertain road ahead.
At minimum, he should have soothed the crowd’s concerns and reminded them Trump is, in fact, President of the United States, and he deserves full respect and reverence.
But instead of bringing people together, he further ran the knife through an already divided nation.
Many pro-life Catholics voted for Trump and supported his candidacy. Bishop McElroy has not only insulted the President of The United States, but he’s encouraging Trump supporters to turn on him.
Displaying hypocrisy at it’s finest, Bishop McElroy actually said his speech was intended to bring “unity and cohesion”.
National Catholic Reporter reported:
“That moment in the U.S., he said, was “a pivotal moment as a people and a nation, in which bitter divisions cleave our country and pollute our actual dialogue.”
“We must make the issues of jobs, housing, immigration, economic disparities, and the environment foundations for common efforts, rather than of division. We must seek prophetic words and prophetic actions which produce unity and cohesion, and we must do so in a spirit of hope, which is realistic,” McElroy said.”
It’s one thing to have personal beliefs, but to force those personal beliefs onto a congregation of people and manipulate them into believing this is the “right way” crosses the line.
What do you think of Bishop McElroy using his position to mobilize Catholics to “disrupt” President Trump? Do you think he should resign for his politically baited remarks?
