Democrats are working overtime as the 2020 election gets closer every day.
But they may not be following all the laws in their blitz to take down President Trump.
And one 2020 Democrat could end up in big legal trouble for a reason you won’t believe.
The only candidate running for president who is richer than President Donald Trump is Mike Bloomberg.
Bloomberg has made it clear he will dig deep into his $50 billion fortune to try to defeat President Trump in 2020 as a Democrat.
And he is also going to use the media wing of the company that he made his billions off of to further help in his campaign.
Following the announcement of Bloomberg’s campaign, Bloomberg News editor-in-chief John Micklethwait announced that his publication will not investigate the site’s founder, or any other Democrat candidate for president.
But he did state that they will continue to investigate President Trump to find negative stories to attack him with.
And that’s where Bloomberg could end up in big trouble with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) which oversees compliance with campaign-financing laws.
Former FEC Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky explained this to the Daily Caller, stating that Micklethwait’s statement “raises concerns under federal campaign finance law.”
“The problem with what Bloomberg [News] has announced is that they are not going to be giving equal coverage to all opposing candidates,” Spakovsky told the Daily Caller. “They’re only going to be covering one opposing candidate, and that’s Donald Trump… if they’re not willing to do any negative stories that might come up about Mike, whereas they are about Trump, then they’re directly helping his campaign.”
“I think if a complaint were to be filed with the FEC, where I served for two years, there would be serious questions raised whether this policy violates this particular provision of the FEC,” Spakovsky concluded.
While Democrats love to claim that Fox News is propaganda for the President, a claim most Trump supporters would laugh off, Bloomberg is actually following through with this.
Bloomberg News claims to be an unbiased publication that simply reports the news.
But with the site’s founder announcing his campaign, they seem to be abandoning any semblance of non-partisanship.
It is almost certain that a complaint will be filed with the FEC over this.
Campaign finances must be meticulously reported, which includes non-monetary contributions that provide support for a campaign.
While news outlets are generally against Trump, they can generally avoid trouble with the FEC by reporting scandals from all candidates, even if they downplay it with their reporting.
There is a lot Bloomberg needs to cover up if he hopes to win the presidency.
He claims to be a middle-of-the-road candidate who has appeal both in the Republican and Democrat Party.
But he has a history of being perhaps the biggest influencer on the anti-gun movement in the past decade.
He has spent tens of millions of dollars to push the most radical gun control laws the U.S. has ever seen.
But if the media refuses to report this, it could give him a boost with conservative-leaning independents, and even moderate Republicans.
