Viewers have witnessed many bizarre things on CNN programming these last four years.
But this latest episode takes the cake.
And a big name CNN host confessed on air to suffering from this strange disease.
CNN’s Jim Acosta built his brand as a “resistance” performance artists where he would carry on like a WWE Superstar in the main event of Wrestlemania when tangling with Donald Trump in the White House press briefing room.
But now that Joe Biden is in office Acosta’s gimmick no longer serves any purpose.
Since CNN doesn’t plan to aggressively cover Joe Biden the network shunted Jim Acosta off to a graveyard weekend anchor shift – showing that what they really think of his journalistic “chops” – and sending more compliant stenographers into the briefing room.
But CNN made it seem like Acosta leveled up by promoting his new show on their other programs.
Part of this face saving tour included an appearance on leftwing activist Brian Stelter’s ironically named “Reliable Sources” program.
Even though Acosta was no longer covering the White House day to day Stelter still needed to find a way to work Trump into the narrative asking Acosta how he was adjusting to the news cycle under Joe Biden.
“I’d love to hear from you both about how D.C. journalists are adjusting to the Biden era,” Stelter asked. “Jim, this is your first week anchoring here on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Do you feel like you’re rundown, like your lineup is really different than it would have been in the Trump years?”
Acosta responded by claiming he suffered from PTSD – Post-Trump stress disorder.
“When you asked me if I was run down I thought you were asking me how I felt during the Trump era,” Acosta responded. “I think that’s we’re all dealing with a Post-Trump Stress Disorder.”
Acosta then gave the game away by pointing out how members of the media were struggling to come up with content to keep the audience hooked since Trump left office.
“It doesn’t have to have Donald Trump in the headlines for us to continue to exist, especially when he’s putting out these statements,” Acosta said. “You know, when he was in office he was doing things that were beneath the office of the presidency. Now he’s doing things beneath the office of the post-presidency. He’s not going to change but we need to change with the times.”
Since Trump’s left office CNN’s lost 40 percent of its audience.
That’s because CNN stopped broadcasting the news and switchedover to promoting narratives.
But good storytelling requires heroes and villains.
When Donald Trump left office CNN lost their “villain” and as a result lost their audience.
And that is the real “post-Trump stress disorder” Acosta and others at CNN are suffering from.
