Nancy Pelosi thought she had an ace up her sleeve in the 2022 midterm election.
But Pelosi’s plan went sideways.
And one criminal investigation just dealt Nancy Pelosi this massive defeat.
The January 6 Witch Hunt Select Committee has one overriding goal – block Donald Trump from running for president in 2024.
One manner in which the committee seeks to accomplish that goal is to cripple Trump’s expected 2024 re-election campaign by sending the message to anyone thinking of working for Trump that they face criminal prosecution if they sign to the Trump campaign.
That goal took a hit when the Justice Department declined to prosecute former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Trump social media aide Dan Scavino on contempt of Congress charges after the two asserted executive privilege and refused to testify in the January 6 Committee’s Starr Chamber.
United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew M. Graves wrote that his investigation was complete and that Scavino and Meadows would not face criminal charges.
“Based on the individual facts and circumstances of their alleged contempt, my office will not be initiating prosecutions for criminal contempt as requested in the referral against Messrs. Meadows and Scavino,” Graves wrote in a letter to House of Representatives General Counsel Douglas N. Letter. “My office’s review of each of the contempt referrals arising from the Jan. 6 committee’s investigation is complete.”
But the Justice Department did charge Trump trade advisor Peter Navarro on contempt of Congress changes.
An FBI goon squad swarmed Navarro at the airport and slapped handcuffs and leg irons on Navarro like he was a dangerous fugitive.
Navarro decried the decision as a Soviet-style attempt by a corrupt regime to destroy its opposition.
“There are bigger things at play than whether I go to prison,” Navarro declared. “And that’s why I’m standing here.”
“This is not the way that America is supposed to function,” Navarro continued. “They’re playing hardball.”
The January 6 Witch Hunt Select Committee is a purely partisan exercise designed to hurt Donald Trump and punish his supporters.
But even the heavily politicized Justice Department – which views law enforcement as an exercise in partisan power politics – realized it could not bring a case against Meadows and Scavino.
However, the Justice Department could not allow the committee to go home empty handed.
So, the Justice Department ordered the FBI to arrest Peter Navarro in the most public and most humiliating fashion possible.
Democrats were counting on the January Committee to serve as its saving grace.
Not only was the committee put together to act as the third impeachment of Donald Trump, but it also hopes to serve as the Democrats’ saving grace in the midterm election by producing a propaganda report allowing Nancy Pelosi to baselessly claim Republicans are part of insurrection and sedition.
But the public is tuning out this partisan farce and the conduct of the FBI in trying to embarrass Peter Navarro is a big reason why.
