Democrats were unprepared for this.
It was their worst nightmare come true.
This major Joe Biden ally just revealed why Democrats will lose everything in 2022.
South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn may have delivered the most important endorsement of the 2020 Democrat Presidential primary.
Clyburn endorsed Joe Biden before the South Carolina primary which helped Biden consolidate the black vote that powered his win in the Palmetto State and eventually the Democrat nomination.
Because of Clyburn’s key role in the primary, many in the media look to Clyburn for hints about which way the winds in the Democrat Party are blowing.
After Democrats suffered disastrous down ballot losses in the 2020 election Clyburn slammed liberal activists that pushed the fringe “defund the police” message.
But now after multiple nights of Black Lives Matter riots in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota following the accidental shooting death of Daunte Wright, Clyburn is singing a different tune.
CNN host Don Lemon asked Clyburn to respond to Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib using Wright’s death to call for the end of the police and jailing criminals.
“It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence. I am done with those who condone government funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed.” Tlaib wrote on Twitter.
Clyburn defended Tlaib claiming that “she’s expressing her frustrations and what she hears from her constituents, and I can understand that.”
“We’ve got to have police officers,” Clyburn added, trying to blunt the damage Democrats feared they would face by tolerating calls to eliminate the police.
But Lemon was not assuaged and asked Clyburn again if Tlaib’s remarks would damage the Democrats prospects in the midterm elections.
“I’m wondering if you think these — the latest remarks, are they harmful?” Lemon asked.
To the shock of many viewers, Clyburn did not disavow Tlaib’s radical call to eliminate the police and end the practice of jailing criminals by claiming eliminating the police was popular with the Democrats in Tlaib’s district.
“No, I don’t think so. I think that she represents her district. She knows what’s going on in and around Detroit. That is one thing. But I come out of a culture where people honor the police, but they want good policing. We do not honor bad police officers.” Clyburn stated.
Clyburn also dismissed the idea Tlaib’s comments hurt Democrats’ ability to ram anti-police legislation through Congress.
Again, Clyburn made excuses for Tlaib’s call to eliminate the police.
“No, I don’t think they do. I think she’s expressing her frustrations and what she hears from her constituents, and I can understand that. But we need to pass this Justice in Policing Act.” Clyburn added.
Republicans only need to flip five seats in the House of Representatives to reclaim the majority.
If even Jim Clyburn is afraid to call out eliminating the police Democrats may be digging their own political grave.
