Former Trump Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo is out promoting his new book “Don’t Give an Inch.”
When candidates publish books such as this it’s the first step towards running for president as the book provides an excuse for media outlets to give the politician free air time with interviews.
Pompeo is clearly running for president in 2024.
Another former Trump administration member looking to run for president in 2024 is RINO former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley.
Politicians use books like “Don’t Give an Inch” to position themselves as champions on issues the party base cares about while denigrating their rivals.
Both Pompeo and Haley hail from the John McCain foreign policy wing of the party and Pompeo included an anecdote in “Don’t Give an Inch” to paint Haley as a disloyal backstabber.
In an appearance on “Fox News Special Report” host Brett Baier confronted Haley with an excerpt from Pomepo’s book where Pompeo stated that Haley, Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump fooled Trump chief of staff John Kelly into granting them a meeting with Trump alone in the Oval Office.
The true purpose of the meeting, Pompeo wrote, was to push for Trump to drop Mike Pence from the 2020 ticket and replace him with Nikki Haley in a big to improve Trump’s support with suburban women.
“I received a call one evening from John Kelly, chief of staff, who apologized for allowing ambassador Haley to go to the Oval Office. She had gone — not gone in for a personal matter but rather had entered the oval office with the president’s daughter, Ivanka and her husband, Jared. As best Kelly could tell, they were presenting a possible ‘Haley for vice president’ option … He was certain he had been played,” Pompeo wrote.
“Is that true?” Baier wondered. “Were you trying to get Mike Pence off of that ticket?”
“No,” Haley responded. “And, you know, Pompeo even says he is not sure if it’s true. I never had a conversation with Jared, Ivanka, or the president about the vice presidentship.”
“What I will tell you is it’s really sad when you are having to go out there and put lies and gossip to sell a book,” Haley continued. “I don’t know why he said it, but that’s exactly why I stayed out of D.C. as much as possible to get away from the drama and get away from the gossip. I focused on my job, and that’s what I always did.”
Haley was one of the biggest leakers during the Trump administration.
In her time at the U.N. Haley would always make sure her opposition to Donald Trump’s foreign policy ended up featured prominently in the papers.
Haley came from the Mitt Romney era-GOP and never liked Trump’s America First conservatism.
In the 2016 campaign Haley used her response to Barack Obama’s final State of the Union to attack Trump for opposing amnesty and support for building a wall along the southern border.
But according to Mike Pompeo Haley was scheming to weasel her way onto the 2020 ticket so she could be tapped as Donald Trump’s heiress apparent for 2024.
