Joe Biden thought he had found the perfect pick to be his Vice President.
But the uncontrolled violence in her city is getting out of hand.
A shocking armed takeover could topple the career of Biden’s top VP pick.
Joe Biden has made no secret of the fact that he is trying to pander to voters with his vice presidential pick instead of choosing the person who would be best for the job.
Biden has promised to pick a woman and he is almost certainly going to pick a minority woman at this point.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar who was formerly a top contender to be Biden’s vice president has taken her name out of consideration.
Now Keisha Lance Bottoms, the mayor of Atlanta, with no federal experience is being considered.
When the violent riots were happening Bottoms gave an emotional performance on TV telling rioters to go home in a way that struck a chord with the nation.
“You are disgracing our city. You are disgracing the life of George Floyd and every other person who has been killed in this country,” she said, adding “This is not the legacy of civil rights in America. This is chaos. Go home.”
Yet the violence has not ended in Atlanta and now that the national spotlight isn’t on her Bottoms is no longer speaking out against the armed protesters that allegedly gathered at the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks died.
Kimberlee Jones, president of the South Atlanta Civic League, lives just a mile away from the Wendy’s.
“My husband literally just missed getting caught in the crossfire when he was on his way home, and people have been shot and have been hurt.” she said.
Jones then went on to say that her mother had been prevented from returning to her own house by protesters blocking the road.
“It’s not a protest at this point. I use the term ‘flea market’ because some people are camped out, some are selling things, others are taking selfies and not actually protesting.” Jones added.
The police’s advice to Jones was to stay away from the location.
“He (the police officer) asked people to stay away because, I’ll use his term, the crowd has been hostile to a certain extent,” said Jones. “He said that they are aware of what’s going on, but they don’t want to add fuel to the fire; to escalate things. So their advice is to stay out of that area … It’s physically draining, trying to figure out ways to get home, and it’s emotionally draining dealing with the upheaval and the noise and the explosions. It’s an emotional drain.”
Keisha Bottoms needs to stop looking for national attention and start taking care of her people.
