President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is well underway.
But with less than a year to go before the November 2020 election, Trump’s campaign just got news that they’re in massive trouble.
And it’s all because one shocking poll just smacked Trump with news he didn’t see coming.
President Donald Trump will be seeking re-election to another four-year term next year.
And while incumbent presidents usually have a leg up over their rivals when seeking a second term, things may be different in 2020.
Trump remains stuck in a huge uphill climb when seeking his second term.
And he’s just got hit with horrible news that could cost him the White House next year.
The Daily Caller reports, “A national poll released Tuesday on the 2020 election shows Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders beating President Donald Trump by eight points.
According to Quinnipiac, Sanders beats Trump 51-43 in a head-to-head competition, while other Democratic candidates like Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren are also beating Trump, 51-42 and 50-43, respectively.”
This is bad news for Trump.
No president in modern history has been re-elected with numbers like this.
And if the trendline continues, Trump could be looking at just serving one term in office.
There’s almost no way that he could win next November if he is polling this many points down against most of the leading Democratic primary candidates.
But 11 months is a long time in American politics, and there’s still plenty of time to turn things around.
Even so, the poll is almost certainly setting off alarm bells in Trump’s campaign headquarters.
If the President can’t raise his standing in the polls beyond the mid to low 40s, he will have to go very negative against whoever the Democratic nominee is in order to defeat them next year.
This is doable however. After all, Trump won in 2016 by facing off against Hillary Clinton, who was perhaps the most unpopular political figure in America at the time of the election.
And if Trump can make his Democratic opponent as unpopular as he is, he may have a shot at winning a second term.
But if he can’t make whoever the nominee is as disliked as Hillary Clinton was, his chances of pulling off a win could evaporate completely.
Even with this bad news however, there is a silver lining for Trump.
The Daily Caller concludes, “However, Quinnipiac poll from Tuesday does show a good sign for Trump on the issue of impeachment, with 51 percent of Americans opposing impeaching and removing Trump from office, and 45 percent supporting it.”
The impeachment efforts Democrats have pushed for could be Trump’s biggest chance yet to turn the ship around.
A potential backlash from the general public over impeachment could end up improving the President’s chances of winning re-election next year.
Do you think Trump can defeat whoever the Democrats nominate in the 2020 election?
