Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s losing streak continues.
The socialist firebrand once again cooked up a new batch of trouble for the Democrats.
And now Ocasio-Cortez is in a world of trouble that she never saw coming.
When Amazon announced they would build a second headquarters in Queens and bring 25,000 jobs to the New York City borough, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez immediately kicked up a firestorm of oppositions.
Ocasio-Cortez believes wealth is inherently immortal and that companies like Amazon are the epitome of a debased capitalist economic system.
The freshmen Democrat objected to the tax incentives Amazon negotiated with New York in order to win the project.
Amazon promised to bring 25,000 jobs at an average salary of $125,000 per year to Queens.
Amazon was set to receive $1.5 billion in tax breaks, but would not receive the incentives if they failed to create the 25,000 jobs as promised.
That wasn’t good enough for Ocasio-Cortez who believes that wealthy companies and individuals should fork over 70 percent of their income to the government.
She eventually raised so much hell that Amazon abandoned the project entirely and denied 25,000 New Yorkers the ability to compete for high-paying jobs.
The self-identified Democrat Socialist tried to explain her opposition in a Fox News interview.
“When you actually try to extract the details of this deal, all of a sudden the math got really fuzzy and it felt, to the community, that the details were falling apart,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed.
“They say it’s 25,000 jobs. Is it? And that’s what the public wasn’t convinced of,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“We got no answers,” she said. “There was no guarantee that those 25,000 they were going to hire were New Yorkers. Are they just going to import people to displace existing New Yorkers? Are we going to be driving up the cost of rent?”
But not every Democrat was happy with Ocasio-Cortez for killing the new Amazon headquarters.
New York’s radical left-wing Governor Andrew Cuomo – who just won cheers from the left for signing a bill legalizing infanticide – blasted Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats for killing the Amazon deal.
After praising the investment Amazon was set to make in Queens, Cuomo noted, “However, a small group politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community — which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City — the state’s economic future and the best interests of the people of this state. The New York State Senate has done tremendous damage. They should be held accountable for this lost economic opportunity.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s hatred of wealth and capitalism threatens to open a rift that could rip the Democrat Party apart in 2020.
Donald Trump and the Republicans are itching to run against Ocasio-Cortez’s brand of socialism in 2020.
Sane Democrats know the party is marching off a cliff by following Ocasio-Cortez’s lead.
But their base may not give them any other choice.
