Democrats are reaching deep into their playbook to try and derail Donald Trump from confirming a replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
All the biggest names on the left responded to the call for this fight.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got some bad news about filling Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat.
Democrats are trying to put on a show of force and unity to frighten Republicans into backing down from confirming Donald Trump’s pick to succeed Ginsburg.
Chuck Schumer and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared together at a press conference to show that the establishment and socialist wing of the Democrat Party banded together to promise fearsome consequences if they won power this November and Senate Republicans still confirmed President Trump’s nominee.
“We must also commit to using every procedural tool available to us to ensure that we buy ourselves the time necessary. We must commit to allowing and considering and utilizing every single procedural tool available to us again to buy that time,” Ocasio-Cortez roared.
Ocasio-Cortez added that among the options Democrats should consider is impeaching Attorney General Barr in order to shut down the Senate because once the House votes on articles of impeachment that is the only business the Senate could take up.
“Well, I think I am. I believe that certainly, there has been an enormous amount of law-breaking in the Trump administration. I believe that Attorney General Barr are is unfit for office am, and I am that he has pursued potential we are breaking he here. That being said, this is these are procedures that are in decisions are largely up to house Democratic leadership. But I believe that I also we must consider all the tools available to our disposal and that all of these options should be entertained and on the table,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
But a leading Democrat quickly popped the impeachment trial balloon.
Virginia Senator Tim Kaine – who was also Hillary Clinton’s running mate on the doomed 2016 ticket – rejected the idea of impeachment as “foolish” in an interview with MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson.
“Foolish idea, I can’t see virtually any Senate Democrats agreeing with it,” Kaine told Jackson.
Impeaching Attorney General Barr – or President Trump as Nancy Pelosi refused to rule out – would be an exercise in futility.
Senate Republicans do not have to conduct a trial.
The Senate can vote to dismiss the articles.
And if Democrats played games and conducted another sham impeachment to try and gum up the works of the Senate to stop President Trump’s nominee there is no chance Republicans would play along with the Democrats and run a trial.
Within five minutes of receiving the articles of impeachment Senate Republicans would put a stop to this foolishness and dismiss them.
