The rivalry between Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi continues to brew.
Ocasio-Cortez and Pelosi do not see eye-to-eye on every issue and their disagreements are starting to bubble to the surface.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez just made this demand that could end Nancy Pelosi’s career.
Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify on Tuesday.
McGahn did not appear after the White House asserted executive privilege over his testimony.
McGahn previously spoke with Robert Mueller’s investigators for 30 hours, so anything he would have testified to was already in the Mueller report.
Democrats subpoenaing him was just another form of Presidential harassment designed to create a media spectacle since the furor over the Mueller report had died down.
But Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who serves on the Judiciary Committee, has been itching to move forward on impeachment.
However, she has largely held her fire as Speaker Pelosi urged Democrats to avoid a politically disastrous impeachment proceeding.
That truce ended when McGahn followed the law and did not appear before the Democrats kangaroo court.
Ocasio-Cortez told CNN’s Manu Raju that while she respected Pelosi’s insistence that Democrats cool their heels on impeachment, she would demand Democrats move ahead.
“You know, I trust the Speaker is taking a measured approach to ensure that we’re moving everyone forward and, you know, being a Speaker is hard, holding this party together is a difficult task,” Ocasio-Cortez told CNN, “but I personally think so. I think we have to move forward.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s full-throated support for impeachment came just one day after a closed-door meeting with the entire Democrat caucus where Pelosi pleaded for patience.
“This isn’t about politics at all. It’s about patriotism. It’s about the strength we need to have to see things through,” Pelosi told rank-and-file Democrats.
Pelosi pleaded for time and to let the Democrats investigations run their course.
The Speaker cited an Obama judge’s decision to reject the Trump administration’s request to block Democrats from subpoenaing financial institutions for President Trump’s private business records.
“What we said when we started is that these [investigations] will yield information to us. Today, we won our first case,” Pelosi said.
“We’ve been in this thing for almost five months and now we’re getting some results.”
But it is unlikely Pelosi will be able to hold off Democrats much longer.
Democrats know Pelosi begging for the investigations to play out is a time waster.
President Trump and his lawyers can tie the subpoena requests up in court past the 2020 election.
The radical left hates Donald Trump and wants action now.
But polls show impeachment is unpopular.
If Democrats plow ahead with this disastrous strategy, it could help Donald Trump win re-election.
And if Trump wins re-election, he could provide the coattails that allow the Republicans to win back the House.
If that happens, Nancy Pelosi could very well be forced to retire.
