Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is one of the biggest names and fastest rising stars in the Democrat Party.
But all of that may be about to come to an end.
And that’s because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received this warning that could end her career.
For the past year there have been rumblings that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may mount a primary challenge to Chuck Schumer in 2022.
This has the Democrat establishment terrified and Party chieftains are trying to warn her off this course of action.
New York State Democrat Party Chairman Jay Jacobs told the New York Post that Ocasio-Cortez challenging Chuck Schumer would amount to career suicide.
“I think it would be a primary driven by ambition more than by need,” Chairman Jacobs declared.
Jacobs told the Post that Schumer would “absolutely” defeat Ocasio-Cortez and that if Ocasio-Cortez ran and lost it would deprive her constituents in her Congressional District of her voice.
“Chuck Schumer has been a progressive force in the state for decades,” Jacobs explained that “She has a constituency that admires her and supports her, and they’re in her community, and I think it would be a loss for them if she were to do that.”
Ocasio-Cortez has not exactly denied interest in running against Schumer in 2022.
When POLITICO asked Ocasio-Cortez last April about a possible primary campaign against Schumer she did not give a direct answer.
“Right now, you know, my concern is just making sure that I’m taking care of everything that’s right in front of me and just making sure that I earned the honor and the privilege of serving New York 14th Congressional District for another term,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
“Honestly, this news cycle is so insane who knows where any of us are going to be in 2022,” the socialist Congresswoman added.
As 2020 progressed speculation about Ocasio-Cortez’s future only grew as she continued to cast doubt on the idea that Congresswoman would be her last title as an elected official.
“I don’t know if I’m really going to be staying in the House forever,” Ocasio-Cortez told Vanity Fair in October.
But the real shot heard round the world was in December when Ocasio-Cortez told the Intercept Podcast that it was time for Democrats to replace Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi as leaders in Congress.
“I do think we need new leadership in the Democratic Party,” Ocasio-Cortez declared.
In that interview Ocasio-Cortez said she had no interest in replacing Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.
But that left the door open to run against Schumer in 2022.
No matter who is President next year or which party controls the Senate, Democrats are unlikely to advance Ocasio-Cortez’s pet policies of a socialist takeover of healthcare and the Marxist Green New Deal.
And if Chuck Schumer does not deliver on those agenda items it could invite Ocasio-Cortez to challenge him.
