When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision Democrats thought the court’s conservative majority handed them a political gift.
Democrats believed overturning nationwide abortion on demand would enrage suburban women and motivate swing voters to rise up against the Republican Party.
But that all turned out to be a massive delusion.
A new Rasmussen poll taken after the court released the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade found Republicans maintaining a three-point lead over Democrats on the generic ballot question of which party Americans want to see controlling Congress.

A Rasmussen Reports poll reveals that a generic Republican candidate holds the same 5-point lead over a generic Democrat candidate as the week before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
The poll, published Friday, shows that 47 percent of respondents would cast a ballot for a Republican candidate if the midterm elections were held when they were surveyed. Conversely, 42 percent of those surveyed would back a Democrat.
The five-point differential is the same as a generic Congressional ballot poll released by Rasmussen Reports, the week before Roe was overturned, where 46 percent said they would support a Republican Congressional candidate, while a generic Democrat candidate drew 41 percent of the vote.
Democrats thought the Supreme Court delivered a massive political boon in overturning Roe v. Wade out of a mistaken reading of the polls.
Issue polls in general are garbage because pollsters frame questions about policy proposals in a manner which will elicit more support for the Democrat Party’s position.
But abortion polling is even worse.
When pollsters ask if abortion should be legal “some of the time” they can sweep up Americans who are pro-Life with an exception for the life of the mother or favor other restrictions on abortion such as heartbeat bills and abortion after six weeks.
These responses get added to the Democrats who favor abortion on demand up until the moment of birth with no limitations.
Democrats ignore recent history by plowing ahead with their radical pro-abortion agenda.
In the 2016 election voters that put the Supreme Court as their number one issue broke 58 to 41 for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.
Voters knew whoever won that election would appoint the justice that would fill Antonin Scalia’s seat.
Clinton defended abortion up until the moment of birth which proved to be a losing message with Americans.
Now Democrats are walking into another political buzzsaw by foolishly believing the Americans support their extremist pro-abortion agenda.
