Donald Trump and his supporters sense they are on the cusp of one massive victory.
After three years the tables are about to turn and the criminal conspirators that staged the Russian collusion hoax could be brought to justice.
But then all hell broke loose when Trey Gowdy issued Donald Trump this warning about Barack Obama.
With Robert Mueller’s rigged witch hunt in the rearview mirror, the Trump administration can turn its attention to investigating the investigators.
Mueller’s testimony made it clear this is a necessary step.
That’s because Mueller admitted his team did not investigate the Christopher Steele dossier or the origins of the Russia probe.
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz and Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan hammered Mueller on the bias that infected the investigation.
Jordan tore into Mueller for charging Trump associates for making false statements but not charging Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud with the same crime after Mueller’s own report states Mifsud lied to the FBI three times.
Mifsud was the shady character that planted the information that the Russians had dirt on Hillary with Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos.
That was what allegedly started the Russia investigation.
Many Trump supporters suspect Mueller did not charge Mifsud because Mifsud – who reportedly has ties to Western intelligence – set up Papadopoulos by passing this supposed intelligence along.
Gaetz ripped Mueller for claiming investigating the Steele dossier was ‘outside his purview.’
The Florida Congressman pointed out that Russians planting disinformation about Trump with the Democrats was precisely the type of election meddling Mueller should have investigated.
“Now, if Russians were lying to Steele to undermine our confidence in our duly elected president, that would seem to be precisely your purview, because you stated in your opening that the organizing principle was to fully and thoroughly investigate Russia’s interference, but you weren’t interested in whether or not Russians are interfering,” Gaetz exclaimed.
Gaetz and Jordan dismantling Mueller exposed the fact that his investigation ignored any set of facts that made Democrats or the Barack Obama Deep State look bad.
And that led many Americans – including Congressman Jordan and Gaetz – to eagerly anticipate the results of Attorney General Barr’s investigation into the origins of the Russia probe.
That led Trey Gowdy to warn Republicans to lower expectations about what that investigation would turn up.
“Look, I love Jimmy. Jimmy did a great job yesterday,” the former South Carolina Congressman explained. “Republicans usually set the bar so high that when we don’t meet it, the media narrative then becomes Republicans don’t even own their promises. Just promise a fair investigation that goes wherever the facts take us.”
“Don’t predict what they are going to find. I mean that’s what we got upset with Comey about, right? Comey made up his mind before he even interviewed Hillary Clinton. Republicans don’t need to do the same thing. Let these two folks do their jobs and then let’s kind of process what they find,” Gowdy added.
Gowdy offered this same advice about lower expectations for how Republicans would handle Robert Mueller before his testimony.
That paid off in spades as it was Democrats and the fake news media that built up Robert Mueller’s testimony only to see Mueller’s confused performance fall well below what they built up Americans to expect.
Many Trump supporters believe Republicans would be wise to follow this advice.
