Cuomo isn’t able to continue his terrible double standard.
If the coronavirus restrictions don’t apply to protesters, they can’t apply to anyone.
Andrew Cuomo just got a huge put down on the riots he won’t soon forget.
The Babylon Bee, a popular Christian satire site, recently posted a headline “Clever Churchgoers Avoid Arrest By Disguising Themselves As Rioters.”
It may have been satire but it pretty much hit the nail on the head.
The restrictions for religious services are far higher than the restrictions for protests.
Because Democrats feel like their deep held beliefs are the only ones that are important.
It doesn’t matter to them that other people’s beliefs may not be the same as theirs since their values “are right.”
The left is showing just how little tolerance they have for people who don’t feel and think the same way as they do.
The First Amendment put the right of Americans to worship right alongside the right of Americans to gather.
In the case of a severe public health crisis the government can temporarily halt worship and public gatherings.
However in America it was in the middle of the Spanish flu Democrats wouldn’t be joining in with the protests.
Nancy Pelosi is eighty years old, her age puts her in a high risk category. She wouldn’t be risking death for a photo op with protesters if the coronavirus was that deadly.
The Democrats need to start at least treating protesters and church members equally.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said straight up that he is not going to treat them equally.
“When you see a nation, an entire nation, simultaneously grappling with an extraordinary crisis seeded in 400 years of American racism,” de Blasio said. “I’m sorry, that is not the same question as the understandably aggrieved store owner or the devout religious person who wants to go back to services.”
Andrew Cuomo is responsible for allowing de Blasio to put these restrictions on the people of New York City.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined in with a massive protest “encouraging communities across Michigan to designate areas for peaceful demonstrations.”
Yet she is limiting churches to 50 people or less and groups even outside are supposed to be limited to 100.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell decided that enough is enough and called the Democrats out on their “double standard.”
“Many Americans feel they’ve just seen those fastidious regulations and that puritanical zeal disappear in an instant because a new cause has emerged that powerful people agree with,” McConnell said. “A month ago, small protest demonstrations were widely condemned as reckless and selfish. Now, massive rallies that fill entire cities are not just praised, but in fact, are called especially brave because of the exact same health risks that brought condemnation when the cause was different.”
McConnell especially called out Whitmer, de Blasio and also Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser.
“The rights of free speech, free assembly, and the free exercise of religion are all First Amendment rights,” McConnell added. “They have the same constitutional pedigree. But apparently, while protests are now permissible, prayer is still too dangerous. Politicians are now picking and choosing within the First Amendment itself.”
If free speech is only applied to some then speech is not really free.
