Barack Obama’s number one goal in 2020 is defeating Donald Trump.
But Obama got some bad news as everything is not going according to plan.
And now Barack Obama was forced to accept this reality that left him red with rage.
When former Vice President Joe Biden entered the race, Barack Obama did not endorse him.
Some pundits took that as a sign Obama didn’t believe Biden had the right stuff to go the distance.
And while Biden’s meager political skills became apparent on the campaign trail, Obama did not endorse any of the other 20 plus candidates despite meeting with several to discuss the race.
Obama gave some establishment Democrats hope he would step in to the 2020 race and endorse a candidate when he warned Democrats about getting caught up in ideological purity tests and “woke” social justice politics.
Some so-called “reporters” and Democrat Party elites thought Obama was subtly signaling to voters to support strident leftist candidates like Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren.
But those hopes faded as Sanders gained momentum by winning the most votes in Iowa and New Hampshire and appearing on track for a victory in Nevada.
In the clearest sign yet that Sanders was the party frontrunner, New York magazine reported that Obama personally had come to grips with the fact that he may have to decide a contested convention in Sanders’ favor.
“Obama is going to look at the [delegate math to determine] the outcome. If the math brings someone [to the nomination], he’ll back it in full,” a source close to Obama told a New York magazine reporter. “His biggest dilemma is if Bernie is at 35-40 [percent of the delegates], and no one else is [at] 20. Does he say, ‘You have to go with who won [a plurality of] the delegates, and who looks to be the true front-runner?’” New York Magazine reporter Gabriel Debenedetti wrote.
Another severe blow to the establishment effort to stop Sanders was the Obama team, sending word to Sanders that Obama would not actively work to defeat Sanders in the primary.
Debenedetti also reported that “…Obama’s team has made clear to Sanders’ inner circle that the former president has no intention of getting involved in the primary. And people from both camps who are familiar with the discussions say the pair has also spoken directly during this election cycle.”
Many fake news pundits are eager to compare Sanders’ 2020 campaign to Trump’s successful 2016 effort.
But there is one big difference.
In 2016 the Republican establishment worked to sabotage Trump from the primary right up until Election Day.
None of the party’s living ex-Presidents – George H.W. and George W. Bush – supported Donald Trump.
The Republican Party’s last two Presidential nominees – John McCain and Mitt Romney – actively opposed Trump’s candidacy.
By comparison, New York Magazine reported Obama would go “all-in” for Sanders if he won the nomination.
And Mike Bloomberg promised he would spend billions of dollars supporting Sanders as the Democrat Party standard bearer even though Bloomberg is in the race to prevent a Sanders takeover of the party.
Obama may not like Sanders.
But Obama accepted the fact that Sanders is a legitimate candidate to win the Democrat Party nomination for President.
