Joe Biden’s deep unpopularity has left many Democrats hoping for a new candidate in 2024.
Now, they may just get their wish.
And it’s all because Biden made one major 2024 announcement that left jaws on the floor.
Joe Biden is likely going to end up going down as a one-term president, regardless of whether or not he runs for re-election in 2024.
That’s because his deep unpopularity combined with the economic disaster, he’s helped to create has led to Biden being one of the least popular political leaders the United States has ever seen.
As a result, a growing number of Democrats have been quietly trying to push alternative names for the party’s nomination in 2024 out of a fear that Biden will end up dragging down the party in two years and potentially handing the White House to Donald Trump for a second term.
But Biden so far has managed to keep such talk under the surface, as Democrats anxiously push a message of “party unity” over any potential electoral benefits that would come from dumping Biden early.
And now, Biden is finally beginning to open up about his own plans for 2024 in a major way.
CBS reports, “President Biden told 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley last Thursday that while he intends to run for reelection in 2024, the decision is still up in the air.”
During the interview, Pelley asked Biden point blank: “Are you committed to running again, or are there certain conditions that have to be right?”
And Biden’s response raised eyebrows.
“Look, if I were to say to you, I’m running again, all of a sudden, a whole range of things come into play that I have– requirements I have to change and move and do,” Biden said. “In terms of election laws. and it’s much too early to make that kind of decision. I’m a great respecter of fate. And so, what I’m doing is I’m doing my job. I’m gonna do that job. And within the timeframe that makes sense after this next election cycle here, going into next year, make a judgment on what to do.”
For the first time ever, Biden finally walked back his earlier statements about how he was all-in on a 2024 re-election bid and that there would be nothing stopping him from wanting to run for office again.
But now, Biden appears to be hesitating, perhaps in the face of growing party disunity and frustration with his own record in office, combined with the broader public dissatisfaction over what things he has managed to do over the last two years, none of which have ended up being popular with the American people.
And it’s this unpopularity that has crippled Biden for the better part of a year.
He is now one of the least popular political leaders the country has ever seen, and it has seriously hampered his own 2024 re-election prospects, while also emboldening would-be challengers from within his party to try and campaign to the Left of him in a party primary contest.
Now, Biden is left with a choice to make regarding his own re-election plans, and it’s likely that he won’t settle on a decision until after the midterm elections.
