Bill Clinton used his speech at the Democratic National Convention.
Now everyone is asking what happens next.
And now Bill Clinton is making a big change that has huge consequences for Democrats.
Because of the #MeToo movement Democrats exiled Bill Clinton during the 2018 midterm election.
Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton was sought after endorsements in the 2020 Democrat Presidential primary.
And for a time there was a thought that Bill Clinton would not have a primetime speaking role at the Democrat National Convention for the first time since 1984.
But Joe Biden gave Clinton a speaking role at the August convention which singled to some that Bill Clinton’s days as a party headliner were not over yet.
Clinton’s speech did not leave a major mark and his attempted comeback got overshadowed by a 2002 picture of a blonde giving a smiling Bill Clinton a neck massage while Clinton traveled with accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Since former President Clinton’s speech at the convention the Biden campaign made no use of Clinton.
And it looks like Clinton is now transitioning into podcasting starting in 2021.
Deadline exclusively reported:
Former President Bill Clinton is partnering with iHeartMedia to launch a new podcast in early 2021.
The podcast will build on one that Clinton hosted last year for the Clinton Foundation, which is also a partner in the new project, according to a source familiar with the plans. The podcast will be distributed via the iHeartPodcast Network.
Clinton Foundation chief communications and marketing officer Craig Minassian explained to Deadline what the former President hoped to accomplish.
“The podcast is inspired by President Clinton’s belief that the purpose of his work in public service is to give people the opportunity to live their best life story,” Minassian explained. “The show will be built on his gift for storytelling, his ability to explain complex issues in a relatable way and showcase his wide-range of interests and well-known intellectual curiosity through conversations about the ideas and events that continue to shape his work and our world.”
Clinton getting into the world of podcasting suggests that Clinton is no longer going to even try to involve himself in politics.
Instead, Clinton will try to reinvent himself and burnish his reputation in a media format that an ever increasing number of Americans turn to for news and entertainment.
The first paragraph of Bill Clinton’s obituary will always lead with impeachment and his multiple sex scandals.
Clinton desperately wants to change that dynamic.
It is unlikely that will ever be the case.
But podcasting and trying to rebuild the Clinton Foundation’s prestige following the pay to play and foreign donation scandals of 2016 is his latest attempt.
