The battle for control of the United States Senate took a sharp turn.
Democrats are in damage control mode.
And now Chuck Schumer got blindsided by this shocking demand.
Control of the 50/50 Senate very well may hinge on who wins the Pennsylvania Senate race.
Democrat John Fetterman led by single digits in the most recent polls.
However, Fetterman nearly died after suffering a stroke in May and his handlers largely hid him in the basement for the last three months and limited his public appearances and speeches.
Part of the cover up to hide Fetterman’s true state of his health involved ducking scheduled debates with Republican Dr. Oz.
Fetterman felt the heat and weakly agreed to maybe debate at the end of October.
Even the liberal Washington Post called out Fetterman and his campaign for trying to hide from debates and demanded Fetterman debate Dr. Oz multiple times starting with a showdown before early voting begins on September 19.
The Post noted Fetterman’s poor condition in his limited campaign appearances and declared that Fetterman must immediately release his medical records for independent review.
The Washington Post reports:
The Fetterman campaign squandered credibility by concealing from the public for two days after his stroke that he had been hospitalized. It waited weeks longer to reveal a more complete picture of his medical history, including that he had been diagnosed in 2017 with cardiomyopathy. Mr. Fetterman had a pacemaker with a defibrillator implanted after the stroke. The campaign’s response to questions about Mr. Fetterman’s health is to point to a doctor’s note, released more than 14 weeks ago, which said “he should be able to campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem” if he takes his medications and exercises.
That’s not good enough. Mr. Fetterman is asking voters for a six-year contract without giving them enough information to make sound judgments about whether he’s up for such a demanding job. We have called for full disclosure of health records from candidates for federal office in both parties, including Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and we believe Mr. Fetterman should release his medical records for independent review.
For his part, Dr. Oz hammered Fetterman’s refusal to debate on Tucker Carlson’s show.
Dr. Oz explained that if Fetterman refuses to debate it shows Fetterman’s team is lying in saying Fetterman is healthy enough to campaign and serve as a Senator.
Dr. Oz on Tucker: "[Fetterman] has not agreed to a debate … either you are healthy enough to debate — because your team keeps saying you're healthy — and you want to hide these radical ideas you've been throwing out there on Twitter … or you're lying about your health." pic.twitter.com/p8noBiKjrO

Fetterman’s appearance at a Women for Fetterman rally the day the Post published its editorial highlighted the questions about Fetterman’s health.
At the event, Fetterman delivered a disjointed, halting and rambling speech untethered from coherent English.

Fetterman is clearly in ill health and likely cannot stand up for an hour and speak intelligently.
The campaign made the calculated decision they could get away with hiding Fetterman from the voters.
But the Post calling out Fetterman’s refusal to debate ensures the status of Fetterman’s health will remain a central campaign issue for the final two months of the race.
And it could cost Chuck Schumer and the Democrats their Senate majority.
