Chuck Schumer and the Democrats just sunk to the lowest depths imaginable.
They made it clear from ‘Day One’ that they were out to destroy Donald Trump.
But Chuck Schumer instantly regretted making this one career-changing mistake.
Chuck Schumer and the Democrats successfully filibustered a disaster relief bill put together by Senate Republicans because the left alleged it did not contain enough welfare money for Puerto Rico.
The bill contained over 600 million dollars in food stamp assistance, but Schumer and his minions howled that was not enough.
Republican Senator David Perdue – who helped put together the legislation – was furious.
“I have never been more frustrated as a United States Senator than I am right now. This is pure partisan politics,” Perdue tweeted.
Perdue followed that up with a statement trashing the Democrats for depriving Americans of disaster relief.
“Washington has reached a new low — it’s been nearly six months since Hurricane Michael ravaged Georgia and other states across the country, and Congress has failed to help the very people it claims to represent,” Perdue’s statement read. “President [Donald] Trump reached across the aisle, along with other Republicans, to compromise on disaster relief, but only one Democrat was willing to work with us.”
“Do not be fooled — Senate Democrats are using farmers in the Southeast and the people of Puerto Rico as pawns in their political game,” Perdue wrote.
“It is hypocritical that Democrats say they want to help Puerto Rico recover, and yet they obstruct this disaster relief.”
President Trump also ripped the Democrats on social media.
“The Democrats today killed a Bill that would have provided great relief to Farmers and yet more money to Puerto Rico despite the fact that Puerto Rico has already been scheduled to receive more hurricane relief funding than any “place” in history,” the President declared.
“The people of Puerto Rico are GREAT, but the politicians are incompetent or corrupt. Puerto Rico got far more money than Texas & Florida combined, yet their government can’t do anything right, the place is a mess – nothing works. FEMA & the Military worked emergency miracles, but politicians like the crazed and incompetent Mayor of San Juan have done such a poor job of bringing the Island back to health. 91 Billion Dollars to Puerto Rico, and now the Dems want to give them more, taking dollars away from our Farmers and so many others. Disgraceful!”
The Democrats don’t care about Puerto Rico.
And they certainly don’t care about the effects of natural disasters on Americans in states that Trump won.
What they really care about is defeating Trump in the 2020 election.
Schumer and his lieutenants calculated that gumming up the works on the disaster relief bill would frame the President as not caring about Puerto Rico.
They hoped that it would ultimately turn the Puerto Rican voters who moved to the key swing state of Florida after Hurricane Maria against the President.
But there is a good chance this plan will backfire on the Democrats.
President Trump’s standing in Florida is stronger than many suspect.
Democrats support for socialism is turning off influential Hispanic voting blocs in Florida.
And this desperate gambit may not be enough to save them.
