Chuck Schumer made obstruction his chief strategy to defeating Donald Trump in 2020.
But now he is holding the troops hostage.
And Chuck Schumer just stabbed the United States military in the back in this disgusting way.
Last week, Donald Trump stuck to his principles of not involving the United States in an endless war in the Middle East when he called off missile strikes on three sites in Iran.
The President’s hawkish advisors pushed him to bomb Iran in retaliation for Iran shooting down an unmanned American aircraft.
President Trump wisely rejected this advice on the count that it would have resulted in the deaths of 150 Iranians, which was not in proportion to Iran shooting down an unmanned robot plane.
This also could have caused Iran to further escalate their retaliatory strikes, which, had they resulted in the death of even just one American, it would have left the President with no choice but to go to war.
Democrats in Congress want to use this episode to embarrass the President.
Under Schumer’s direction, they are blocking votes on the National Defense Authorization Act until they get votes on amendments blocking the President from striking Iran without Congressional approval.
In an interview with TheHill.TV, President Trump stated he had the authority to launch a missile strike against Iran without first seeking a vote in Congress.
“I do. I do believe that. But, we’ve been keeping Congress abreast of what we’re doing Saagar, and I think it’s, something they appreciate. We had a lot of folks over the other day as you know, told ‘em what was happening, what was going on. We were pretty close to maybe making the decision to strike and then I decided not to do it. Nobody went out by the way, I was gonna make that decision by a certain time and I decided not to do it because it wasn’t really proportional. And , no but I like, I like the idea of keeping Congress abreast, but I wouldn’t have to do that,” President Trump told TheHill.TV.
Democrats were incensed.
But they saw an opening to delay the President’s priorities and distract from the fact that Trump’s decision not to go to war in Iran was popular with the American people.
“There’s a very strong consensus that we need to vote on making clear that there will be no unauthorized war with Iran. So I think that’s the direction that we’re moving in,” Maryland Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen told reporters.
“If the Senate can’t vote on an issue of national security and we’re on a national security bill, then what the hell are we doing here?” Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley added. “That’s my comment.”
Democrats actions are the height of hypocrisy.
Elected Democrats defended Barack Obama’s illegal war in Libya back in 2011 which he launched without Congressional approval.
They are only making a stink now because they want to inflict political pain on President Trump.
