Nancy Pelosi is looking to make the mainstream media even more powerful.
And she thinks she’s found the perfect solution.
CNN is excited at a massive Democrat bailout they’re in line to receive.
There’s a bill in Congress that would allow mainstream media companies to form a monopoly.
The bill, introduced by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI), is titled the “Journalism Competition and Preservation Act of 2019,” and despite its name would be horribly damaging to small journalism and would stop competition.
It would provide newspapers and some online publishers with a four-year antitrust exemption and allow them to band together in negotiations with Google, Facebook and Twitter.
This bill would allow CNN, NBC, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and other big companies, to come together in a way that is currently illegal and control how their news is presented on Facebook, Google and Twitter.
And smaller companies, or companies with an opposing political viewpoint could be excluded.
That’s not where the problems end with this bill.
“Even if a favored nations clause were inserted into the bill — meaning that whatever deal they negotiated on their own behalf would have to apply to all news companies and journalists — there would still be the troublesome secondary issues that the bill leaves unsatisfactorily unanswered. What qualifies as news — for example, are two journalists doing fantastic work and publishing their own articles on substack a “news company?” What qualifies as “high-quality news?” And most importantly, who gets to decide? The bill leaves that decision in the hands of alternatively Big Tech or Big Media — and everyone should be able to agree neither should be permitted to make that determination.” Breitbart reported.
The internet has changed the playing field for journalism and the mainstream media and allows freedom that there never was before.
The mainstream media has lost their journalistic integrity and want to stop opposing information from getting out.
A CNN journalist has tried to get cable companies to stop carrying Fox News and Newsmax.
“So why do AT&T (which I should note is CNN’s parent company), CenturyLink, and Verizon carry OAN? Why do AT&T, CenturyLink, Verizon, Comcast, Charter, and Dish carry Newsmax? And why do they all carry Fox — which is, frankly, at times just as irresponsible and dangerous with its platform as its smaller competitor networks?”
The mainstream media already has a great amount of institutional power as they gain more.
And the Democrats are happy to give them more power since the mainstream media operates as a propaganda wing for their party.
This bill would severely damage independent journalism and needs to be stopped at all costs.
