CNN spent the last year in the middle of a massive upheaval.
Now one of the network’s key shows imploded.
CNN took one top star off the air after this insane sex controversy.
New network president moved Don Lemon from primetime to the mornings cohost CNN This Morning with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.
This Morning served as the centerpiece of new network president Chris Licht’s plan to pull the nose up on CNN’s sinking ratings.
Licht’s plan proved to be a disaster.
This Morning drew lower ratings than the floundering New Day program it replaced.
And Lemon clearly does not get along with Harlow and Collins.
The latest blowup saw Harlow storming off the set after Lemon remarked that the 51-year-old RINO former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was past her sexual prime.
Lemon stepped in it after attacking Haley for saying politicians like Joe Biden were past their prime.
The diehard liberal Lemon could not stomach anyone criticizing Biden and lashed out at Haley’s age putting her past her child birthing peak.
“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable,” Lemon began. “I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are suddenly not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime.”
A stunned Harlow demanded to know if Lemon was saying Hale was past her sexual peak.
Lemon confirmed that was the case.
“That’s not according to me,” Lemon stated. “It’s like, prime. If you look it up. If you Google when is a woman in her prime, it’ll say 20s, 30s, and 40s.”
The following day Lemon called into a CNN editorial call and offered a halfhearted apology that did not include Haley.
“The people I am closest to in this organization are women,” Lemon began. “The people I seek counsel to first in this organization are women. The person I am closest to is my mother, a woman.”
“I want you to know what I said on yesterday’s show about Nikki Haley’s comments about ageism, that it came out wrong. What I said came out wrong,” Lemon added.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to hurt anyone. I did not mean to offend anyone,” Lemon continued.
“What I said came out wrong and I wish I hadn’t said it. I believe women of any age can do anything they set their minds to,” Lemon concluded.
Licht tried to soothe over the hurt feelings.
“Don and I have spoken at length. He knows I’m disappointed,” Licht stated. “His remarks were upsetting, unacceptable and unfair to his co-hosts and ultimately a huge distraction to the great work of this organization.”
But this call and Lemon’s supposed apology did not go over well as Lemon was photographed in Miami on Friday with CNN offering up an unconvincing explanation that Lemon was already scheduled to take the day off anyway.
However, critics suspect Licht sent Lemon away to let the situation cool down.
This would not be the first time Licht told Lemon to stay home for a day.
The New York Post reported back in December that Lemon screamed at co-host Collins off camera and acted like such an ogre that Licht ordered him to take the next day off.
CNN is in crisis.
Its ratings sunk to a nine-year low and the morning show’s hosts cannot get along.
