The 2020 Election is shaping up to be a slug fest, with candidates taking off the gloves and landing direct punches.
And even in this day and age, sex scandals can make all the difference in a campaign and who wins on election day.
That’s why this Democrat candidate’s sexting adventures could kill Democrats’ chances of taking back the Senate this year.
For years, the advice for Democrat candidates in the South was “Don’t be caught with a live boy or a dead girl.”
Short of that, victory was at least still possible.
Obviously, that has changed as the South has become more reliably Republican and as the national Democrats have become Socialists.
So, Democrat candidates in southern states, if they hope to win, have to at least be a little more discreet in their sexual escapades and infidelities.
Many a campaign has been derailed by affairs, visits to strip clubs, inappropriate touching, sexual assault complaints, and of course, “sexting.”
That’s why North Carolina Democrat Senate candidate Cal Cunningham is in serious trouble and has suspended his campaign activities.
And, his onetime big lead over moderate Republican incumbent Senator Thom Tillis is now in jeopardy.
All of these problems stem from revelations of “steamy text messages,” or “sexts”, with a woman who is not his wife, evidence the affair was more serious than just the sexting, and new revelations of another possible affair.
In short, Democrat candidate Cal Cunningham, once thought a shoo in to beat the left-leaning Tillis, may now not even make it to the finish line.
According to Andy Jackson of the Civitas Institute, “I think the timing of the affair is more damaging to Cunningham than the physicality of it. To do something like this in July, after he secured his party’s nomination last March, suggests an arrogance and a lack of sound judgment that is more likely to give potential supporters pause than if this is something that had happened a couple of years ago.”
For his part, Senator Tillis says that Cal Cunningham Owes North Carolina voters a very thorough explanation of his sexting problems.
The disgraced candidate has said he will stay in the U.S. Senate race, but under North Carolina law the married father of two couldn’t withdraw even if he wanted to.
Now, with new revelations of a possible second, more long-term affair coming out, Cunningham has decided to cancel all campaign events and has joined Joe Biden as a basement dwelling candidate.
Unfortunately for national Democrats, this is an unmitigated disaster. They has already chalked up North Carolina as a certain Democrat pick-up in their goal to take back the Senate. Now that goal appears almost out of reach.
This is a major change for the Democrats as Cunningham was far ahead of Tillis in the polls throughout the summer and had raised a record-setting $28.3 million in donations just over the past three months.
Simply put, Cunningham appeared to be on a clear path to victory.
Part of the reason for Cunningham’s easy path was that his opponent, Sen. Tillis, can’t generate any enthusiasm among what was his conservative base.
But now, thanks to yet another Democrat sex scandal, it may not matter.
