Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats are already panicking.
It’s all because the 2024 election is shaping up to be a disaster for the Left.
And now, Democrats are publicly sounding the alarm that the party could face a nightmare scenario in the next election.
With the 2024 election still nearly two years away, and with Democrats having performed surprisingly well in last year’s races for the U.S. Senate, it was expected that the party would go into 2023 on an upbeat mood.
But instead, top-level Democrats are already panicking as the 2024 election cycle is about to heat up.
And it’s all because of one nightmare scenario that Democrats are likely to face in the next Senate election which could see the party wiped out of Congress for a generation to come.
Roll Call reports, “Michigan Sen. Gary Peters has signed on for another term as chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and he’ll face yet another challenging fight to hold the majority. But unlike in 2022, the 2024 battlefield looks historically lopsided against Democrats.
Democrats are defending eight vulnerable seats, while Republicans don’t have any. It’s the first time in at least 28 years that one party doesn’t have at least one vulnerable seat on the initial Senate battlefield.”
With the Senate map that is in play in 2024 all but confirmed, it’s clear that Democrats are facing the nearly impossible task of having to defend up to 8 vulnerable Senate seats, with almost no realistic chances of being able to target a single Republican-held seat of their own.
With not a single Republican Senator facing re-election in 2024 in a state Joe Biden won, the two most vulnerable targets that Democrats can focus on are Florida and Texas.
But Texas has proved to be a bridge too far for Democrats in recent years, who have been routinely disappointed in their bids to flip the state time and time again.
What’s more, Florida appears to be zooming to the right, with the state’s governor Ron DeSantis having won re-election by nearly 20 points in 2022.
As a result, Democrats are facing the unenviable prospect of having to play defense everywhere, while having no targets of their own to focus on.
However, the nightmare scenario for Democrats does not end there.
Not only does the party lack any viable targets of its own, but it also has to contend with defending multiple Red states that Donald Trump carried in both 2016 and in 2020.
“Eight Democrat-held seats are considered vulnerable, according to Inside Elections’ initial ratings. That includes three states that President Donald Trump carried in 2020 (Montana, Ohio and West Virginia), four states that Biden carried narrowly (Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) and Virginia, which Biden won by a more comfortable margin but looks potentially competitive after Glenn Youngkin’s gubernatorial win in 2021,” adds Roll Call.
With these challenges in mind, it appears all but inevitable that Democrats will lose control of the U.S. Senate in 2024, regardless of who wins the presidential race.
And this guarantees that the Left’s agenda could face a serious roadblock for the rest of the decade.
