President Trump will likely go down as one of the most unique Presidents of all time.
That’s a good thing, when you think about it, as half the reason he’s so successful is that he’s done more than anyone in the past few decades to help correct the sinking ship that was America.
But Donald Trump admitted one thing about Barack Obama that no one saw coming.
While in North Carolina over the weekend, President Trump said something about Obama that may look like a compliment at first.
Trump admitted that while it’s true Obama enjoyed a considerable amount of support overseas, the reason Trump’s not as popular with other nations isn’t that he’s a worse president than Obama was…
He says the reason foreign nations don’t like him as much is that he’s making them pay off their debts to the United States.
Truthfully, Trump’s okay with that.
Speaking to those in attendance, Trump said:
“Obama is more popular in Germany than Trump. He’s got to be. I’m making people pay their bills. The day I’m more popular than him, I’m not doing my job. They like him more in Europe than they like Trump. I think they should,” he said.
He continued, “You finally have a president who understands that I’m not supposed to be president of the world; I’m supposed to be president of the United States of America.”
Trump’s spot on with his claims.
For years, the United States has footed dozens of nations on the tax-payer dime.
We’ve propped up most nations who are part of NATO and have spent billions of dollars to ensure their safety at our expense. And while you could argue that’s not the worst use of our money, the truth of the matter is that these nations can pay for their own defense.
Thus, we shouldn’t have to volunteer our hard-earned cash to bail other countries out.
President Obama kowtowed to every single country on the planet and in the process, ceded quite a bit of authority and autonomy. Other nation’s opinions of the United States changed so much during the eight years Obama was in office that many of them were taken aback when a strong leader like Trump took office and put us back on track.
Brandon Morse, writing for RedState put it like this, “We’ve spent a very long time being the world’s babysitter, and footing bills for longer than we should ever have been. Trump noted that when it came time for these countries to stand on their own their only comeback and excuse was that American had never asked them to do that before. While that’s true, it doesn’t make it a good excuse.”
So yes, Obama may have been more popular with other nations.
But just like a parent might be unpopular with their teenagers, 20 years later that same child will reflect thankfully on the fact their parents held their feet to the fire.
Trump is a good parent-figure for these other nations.
Obama was like the stepdad who wants kids to like him and didn’t care if his actions ended up harming his children.
