Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is convinced that President Trump is doomed in 2020.
In her mind, there’s no way that the President can get re-elected.
But he’s about to give her the worst news of her life.
When Donald Trump announced he was running for the White House in the summer of 2015, he was mocked endlessly for days.
Trump was ridiculed by the political class, the donor class, the mainstream media, establishment politicians on both sides, and lobbyists of all kinds.
Trump’s campaign for the Presidency was supposed to be a joke, or a weird publicity stunt.
And when people realized that Trump was serious and he actually wanted to become the President, the predictions about his demise began almost immediately.
Trump had made too many gaffes to win, the common argument in Washington was. Trump had said too many politically incorrect things.
Trump couldn’t win when the primary field coalesced around a single anti-Trump candidate.
The Republican Party establishment would do everything in their power to keep Trump from being the nominee.
And when all of these predictions fell on their face, the narrative instead turned to arguing that Trump was unelectable in the general election against Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Trump couldn’t have any path to the 270 necessary electoral votes to win the election, in the eyes of the political pundits who Trump had already disproven before by crushing the rest of the Republican primary field.
When Trump’s path to victory started to emerge from the fog, the narrative instead shifted to how Trump would come up short because Hillary had the better campaign or that she had more money to spend.
And by election day, the consensus across America was how Trump had absolutely no shot at becoming President.
All the polls and models and predictions had him losing, and some even had him losing big.
And Trump blew them all out of the water when he went on to win a massive upset the likes of which America had never seen before.
He defied political reality in a way that had never before been attempted, much less done.
And now, the same voices which once argued he would not even get his primary campaign off the ground in 2015 are now arguing that Trump has no path to re-election in 2020.
Americans have heard this song before.
The National Review reports, “This month, Netroots Nation met in Philadelphia. The choice was no accident. Pennsylvania will probably be the key swing state in 2020. Donald Trump won it by only 44,000 votes or seven-tenths of a percentage point. He lost the prosperous Philadelphia suburbs by more than Mitt Romney did in 2012 but more than made up for it with new support in ‘left behind’ blue-collar areas such as Erie and Wilkes-Barre.”
Netroots Nation is an annual gathering of far-left activists from across the country, and this year, they seem to be more focused on ginning up their base than winning over voters that Trump won in 2020, mostly because the far-left is convinced that Trump is guaranteed to lose next year.
But Trump was supposed to lose in 2016, and in the Republican primary before that.
Both times he defied expectations.
And if Trump does it for a third time, he will have left far-left Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez floored like never before.
We will keep you up to date with any new developments in this ongoing story.
