When Donald Trump announced a close aide tested positive for coronavirus Americans wondered if the President contracted the virus.
The nation waited for the test result.
And Donald Trump just got hit with this bad news about coronavirus.
On Thursday the White House announced that top Trump aide Hope Hicks tested positive for coronavirus.
Hicks had been in close contact with the President all week helping him prepare for the debate and flew with the President aboard Air Force One on Wednesday after testing negative for coronavirus.
Late Wednesday Hicks began developing symptoms upon which she took another coronavirus test and this time the results came back positive.
At 10:44PM Eastern Time on Thursday President Trump revealed to Americans that based on this news he and the First Lady went into quarantine and would await the results of their own coronavirus test.
President Trump tweeted, “Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”
A little over two hours later at 12:52AM Eastern Time President Trump informed the nation that he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus.
“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” the President posted on social media.
Americans immediately began praying for a speedy recovery for President Trump, the First Lady, Hope Hicks as well as any other administration staffers and campaign officials that would test positive in the coming days.
Both Hicks and the Trumps were at the debate on Tuesday and Americans began wondering if former Vice President Joe Biden was infected.
Everyone that entered the debate – and that included the candidates – received a negative test that was administered by the Cleveland Clinic.
President Trump and Biden remained far apart on the stage and did not engage in the traditional pre-debate handshake as part of the public health measures in place for the event.
The next Presidential debate is scheduled for October 15 and there were serious doubts that the event could proceed as scheduled.
It is a town hall event and President Trump may still be in quarantine on that date since his positive test was October 1.
If President Trump and the First Lady are asymptomatic current CDC guidelines suggest remaining in quarantine for ten days after a positive test.
That would mean the earliest President Trump can resume a campaign schedule is October 11.
There is little chance after this that an in-person debate will proceed as planned.
But will the event take place at all? Will the remaining debates – two contests between Donald Trump and Joe Biden as well as the Vice Presidential debate – take place at all?
Those are important questions.
However the most important thing is the health of the President, the First Lady, Hope Hicks and anyone else that may contract the coronavirus.
