The Democrats’ impeachment plans just backfired spectacularly.
Neither Nancy Pelosi nor Chuck Schumer are any closer to getting President Trump out of office.
And now, Trump just left them both humiliated like never before thanks to just six words.
Robert Mueller was supposed to be the man to take down President Trump.
But the Democrats’ plans to use the Mueller report to impeach the President and remove him from office only ended up blowing up in their faces.
And when Mueller came forward earlier this year to more or less vindicate Trump from any wrongdoing, the Democrats were left in an impossible position.
Led by Nancy Pelosi in the House and Chuck Schumer in the Senate, Democrats could have simply let the matter go.
But instead, they chose to move forward with their plans to destroy Trump, taking the dirty work of doing so that they had originally left to Mueller and instead putting it in their own hands.
But even that strategy ended up backfiring.
After hauling Mueller before a House Committee last week to answer questions about his Russia investigation report, Pelosi’s plans to turn the hearing into a publicly televised partisan gambit to get dirt on the President ended up leaving her with absolutely nothing after hours of testimony.
Mueller proved to be a massive disappointment for Democrats, unable to answer several questions, asking for questions to be repeated dozens of times, and dodging multiple questions from lawmakers on both sides for hours on end.
At the end of the day, Pelosi walked away from a hearing that was supposed to breathe new life into the impeachment cause utterly defeated and demoralized.
And her Democratic allies in Congress who had been pushing even harder for impeachment were left completely discredited.
But to add salt to these fresh wounds, the disappointment for Democrats had only just begun.
The Hill reports, “President Trump on Wednesday claimed total victory following Robert Mueller’s testimony to Congress, belittling the former special counsel’s performance and statements about the Russia investigation.”
“Speaking at the White House shortly after Mueller’s nearly six-hour-long appearance on Capitol Hill, Trump declared the ‘phony cloud’ cast by the investigation had been lifted and insisted ‘there was no defense to this ridiculous hoax, this witch hunt.’”
The President has every reason to claim a victory lap as well.
He has been subjected to one of the most baseless conspiracy theories in American history, and two years of his administration were consumed by the looming shadow of Robert Mueller’s investigation and the phony Russian collusion hoax.
With the idea that his campaign openly worked with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election now behind him, he has all the reasons in the world to add insult to injury to both Mueller and Pelosi.
And that’s exactly what he did.
“This was a very big day for our country. This was a very big day for the Republican Party. And you could say it was a great day for me, but I don’t even like to say that. It’s great,” President Trump said.
Trump then took his vindication to Twitter, tweeting: “TRUTH IS A FORCE OF NATURE!”
With just six words, Trump brought the hammer down on both Pelosi and Mueller in a way neither will soon forget.
