Elon Musk made a risky gamble when he said these six words.
But he was willing to put it on the line in order to get a response.
Elon Musk vowed to immediately sell stock if this one question is answered.
The director of the United Nations’ World Food Programme, David Beasley, claimed to CNN that billionaires could easily solve world hunger.
He said that if Elon Musk would just donate 2% of his fortune it could solve the problem.
Billionaires need to “step up now, on a one-time basis” Beasley said on CNN claim that Covid and climate change have many nations “knocking on famine’s door.”
Musk responded to the claim.
“If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it,” Musk tweeted, adding that the data had to be “open source accounting” for the public to check its accuracy.
Instead of explaining to Musk how his money could end world hunger CNN posted a correction.
“An earlier version of this story’s headline incorrectly stated that the director of the UN’s food scarcity organization believes 2% of Elon Musk’s wealth could solve world hunger. He believes it could help solve world hunger.”
And Beasley himself admitted that 6 Billion wouldn’t solve the issue.
“Headline not accurate. $6B will not solve world hunger, but it WILL prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation. An unprecedented crisis and a perfect storm due to Covid/conflict/climate crises,” Beasley responded in the thread.
Beasley than claimed that solving world hunger wasn’t as “as complicated as Falcon Heavy,” a SpaceX rocket, and promising to be “on the next flight” to Musk if he agreed.
“Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes. Sunlight is a wonderful thing,” Musk replied to the proposal.
The United Nations’ World Food Programme raised $8.4 Billion last year and didn’t solve the problem.
Feeding 155 million people many of whom are living under authoritative regimes isn’t a simple problem that’s an easy fix.
Will giving the Afghanistan or the North Korean government aid help the people who need it most?
It would be wonderful to live in such a simple world that a billionaire could write a check and that would solve a major world problem.
Every day Americans give more than a billion dollars to charity and Americans give more to charity than any other nation in the world and the top 1% provide third of all donations.
But Democrats persistently tell the lie that if they could steal money of the wealthiest it would solve the problems of the poor.
