She thought it would be her crowning achievement.
Now it’s simply a disaster of epic proportions.
Now, Ilhan Omar is under massive fire for this Minneapolis disaster.
May 25th, 2020 was a day that truly changed this country.
After the tragic death of George Floyd, the city of Minneapolis faced an enormous outcry from protestors to “defund the police.”
Riots swept the city and eventually, the city council conceded to the demands.
But now they are reaping what they have sown.
People argued that defunding the police was not the way to go, as there would be a drastic rise in crime.
They were ignored especially by those in power.
And now, unfortunately, Ilhan Omar’s worst nightmare.
Minneapolis business owner Jay Ettinger was asked by Fox & Friends’ host Peter Doocy what he thought about Minneapolis spending over $6 million to rehire new police officers in the wake of the rise in crime.
Ettinger responded:
“They saw an opportunity to take down a system and they’ve got a lot of blood on their hands right now because of it. We had over 550 people shot in our city in 2020. We had over 80 murders and the far majority of those people, those victims, were people of color. And so I don’t know exactly who they think they’re helping because this defund the police movement has hurt the black community in our city more than any other and the black leadership in our city is not being heard. Our faith leaders, our educators, our coaches, they’re just not being heard by the city council.”
His words carry the worst news of this whole ordeal.
The “defund the police” movement was created by radical leftists hoping to destroy the one institution they did not control lock, stock and barrel.
Unfortunately, the movement spiraled out of control, causing more pain to the community they started out to protect.
Now Minneapolis is scrambling to correct their awful mistake.
Ettinger continued:
“After the George Floyd unrest there were, the town council there in Minneapolis, said, ‘You know what? The police are doing a bad job. We’ve got to reimagine it; we’ve got to defund the police.’ And that became a movement all across the country. There were people who said taking money from the police does not make sense, and now fast forward to today and now your town council is saying, ‘You know what, we need more police.’ What happened?”
His words strike to the heart of the issue.
The Minneapolis city council, along with every other politician who pushed the narrative to “defund the police,” is now realizing the full scope of what that narrative means for a community and for the cities across America.
