Politicians are stopping the police from being able to do their jobs properly.
This has drastically changed violence in the inner cities.
Ilhan Omar’s crazy move to defund the police just had jaw-dropping results.
Ilhan Omar, the Democratic congresswoman from Minnesota has gone farther than anyone else in terms of her rhetoric against the police.
She called the Minneapolis police department cancer and said that it must be destroyed so that something beautiful could rise up in its place.
The Minneapolis City council voted to get rid of their police department.
“The murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, by Minneapolis police officers is a tragedy that shows that no amount of reforms will prevent lethal violence and abuse by some members of the Police Department against members of our community, especially Black people and people of color,” wrote five of the council members.
Many other cities are following Minneapolis’ lead and are cutting back on the police that they have in the street.
New York City has taken officers off the street and dismantled its plainclothes division.
Forbes reported that around 600 plainclothes officers were moved “to new roles including neighborhood policing and detective bureaus.”
The police in inner cities were not increased for no reason.
The violent crimes in the 80’s and 90’s were concerning to residents as there were nearly 2,500 violent crimes per 100,000 residents in New York City at the peak in the mid 90’s.
New York City then started to take a proactive approach to crime and the crime rate lowered by almost 500 violent crimes for 100,000 residents.
And Democrats at the time admitted that the drop in crime was due to more police officers on the streets.
“2,000 officers and patrol strength by this time next year, that is going to help us go even farther,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in 2016.
This is the same man that is currently taking police officers off the streets.
The results aren’t hard to guess.
Crime has gone up significantly.
Gun violence in New York has gone up 358%.
New York City “logged 125 shootings in the first three weeks of the month, more than double the number recorded over the same period last year, police data show,” the New York Times noted. “Gunmen opened fire during house parties, barbecues and dice games, and carried out coldly calculated street executions.”
The black murder rate has dropped in half in the last twenty five years.
Chief of Crime Control Strategies Michael LiPetri said you would “have to go back to 1996 to have a worse start of June.”
Going back to the murder rate of the 90’s will cost thousands of black people their lives.
America needs to think of better solutions.
