We’ve been asking for months.
But still nothing.
That’s because Joe Biden doesn’t want to admit this truth about the Supreme Court.
Ever since Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett as the next SCOTUS, Joe Biden countered with the objection that he would pack the court to stop her from being confirmed.
The Democrats rallied behind him, declaring the Republicans “unconstitutional” and Barrett “an insult to Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s memory.”
But now time has passed, and Barrett is halfway done with her confirmation hearings.
Still nothing from Biden on packing the court.
And now the people want to know if he’s still going through with the plan.
Last Thursday, Biden went live on ABC where an audience member brought up the question of his plan to pack the court.
The people wanted to know if it was true.
But Biden maneuvered around the question and gave another disappointing answer to the people’s pleas.
His new answer to that question is that he is no longer a “fan” of the idea and believes discussing is pulling the focus away from “more important issues.”
At one point, he told George Stephanopoulos that he would not answer the question at all.
He did not want the discussion to be centered around what he would do after the election.
So instead of letting the people know his absolute stance, he deflected the question entirely.
Below is a partial transcript of the conversation:
Biden: No matter what answer I give you, if I say it that’s the headline tomorrow. It won’t be about what’s going on now, the improper way they’re proceeding.
Stephanopoulos: But don’t voters have a right to know what you think?
Biden: They do have a right to know where I stand, and they’ll have a right to know where I stand before they vote.
Stephanopoulos: So, you’ll have a clear position before Election Day?
Biden: Yes…depending on how they handle this.
On the one hand, it makes sense that Biden is avoiding the question.
He understands that a significant number of his supporters would no longer support him if he committed to the court packing idea.
Additionally, he does not want to be the one to open the floodgates on the ability to pack the court.
If he goes ahead with that plan now, it kicks the doors open for the Republicans to pull the same move in the future.
And this will start a whole new cycle of packing the court to achieve what they want.
Biden does not want to start that cycle.
Kira Davis of RedState blog states:
“No one on the voting Left wants to open that Pandora’s Box and then hand that type of tool over to Republicans one day and then vice versa and on and on and on.”
Thus, Biden has begun this game of cat and mouse with the media.
He brought up the option first, but does not want to commit to an answer until the election, after the votes are in.
But the media will continue to hound him for an answer.
Only time will tell if he will actually give them one.
