Joe Biden is leading Donald Trump in the polls.
But in politics the dynamics of a race can change in an instant.
And Joe Biden got his hands on one new poll that put a knot in the pit of his stomach.
Right now the Real Clear Politics polling average shows Joe Biden leading Donald Trump by nearly 10 points.
But there is still over four months to go until the General Election and 2020 has proven to be the most unpredictable year of anyone’s lifetime.
Donald Trump’s best chance to stage a comeback in this campaign is to frame the election as a choice between himself and Joe Biden.
A brand new poll from Zogby Analytics showing 55 percent of likely voters believe Joe Biden is in the early stages of dementia shows why.
“A majority (55%) of likely voters surveyed thought it was more likely (much more and somewhat more likely combined) that Vice President Biden is in the early stages of dementia, while 45% thought it was less likely (much less and somewhat less likely combined)”,
Zogby wrote of the polls’ findings.
Another worrying sign for the Biden campaign was the fact that 56 percent of independents believe Biden is in the early stages of dementia.
“ Overall, subgroups who normally approve of Trump’s job as president, were the most likely to believe Biden could be suffering from dementia. Thus, majorities of Republicans (77% more likely/23% less likely) and Independents (56% more likely/44% less likely) thought Joe Biden had early-onset dementia; while nearly a third of Democrats (32% more likely/68% less likely) thought this was the case,” Zogby wrote.
Biden’s had problems generating enthusiasm with young voters.
If the President can refocus the attention on Biden it could prove disastrous for Democrats because voters age 18 to 29 are the most likely to believe Biden suffers for early onset of dementia.
Zogby noted that “Younger voters aged 18-24 (60% more likely/40% less likely) and 18-29 (59% more likely/41% less likely) were more likely to believe Biden had dementia than older voters aged 65+ (50% more likely/50% less likely).”
Biden also struggled to woo Hispanic voters.
The lack of enthusiasm for Biden among Hispanic voters could owe to the fact that Zogby found 61 percent of Hispanics believe Biden is in cognitive decline.
“African Americans (43% more likely/58% less likely) were less likely than Hispanics (61% more likely/39% less likely) to think Biden was in the early stages of dementia,” the poll found.
Joe Biden holds a lead in the polls.
And as long as the campaign is focused on President Trump, Biden can hide in his Delaware basement and escape scrutiny.
But if President Trump can shift voters attention onto Biden the Zogby poll shows there is a clear path to victory for Donald Trump.
