Joe Biden is barely hanging on to his frontrunner status in the Democrat Presidential primary.
The former Vice President can’t afford any more disasters.
But now Joe Biden got hit with this cold hard truth that left his life in ruins.
Democrats in Washington began the year thinking the 2020 election was theirs to lose.
Party strategists and elected officials believed Donald Trump’s muddling approval numbers left the President at a severe disadvantage in his re-election bid.
Those perceptions went out the window after the first Democrat Presidential primary debate where over the course of two nights, Democrats – including some taken by supposed “centrist” Joe Biden – came out in favor of positions like decriminalizing illegal immigration, giving free taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal aliens, ending private health insurance and letting prisoners in jail vote.
One of the party’s top tacticians – former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel – authored a medium post warning Democrats they risked alienating swing voters for good by staking out so many extreme left-wing policy positions during the debate.
Emanuel wrote of the debate that “…these events are about delivering a message that will position your candidacy as our standard-bearer in the general election. Let me be subtle: On this second front, not so good. So here are some suggestions for the next go-round,” Emanuel wrote.
Emanuel continued, explaining that “There’s a reason Trump gleefully tweeted ‘That’s the end of that race!’ during the first debate: Too often, you succumbed to chasing plaudits on Twitter, which closed the door on swing voters in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. If you win the nomination in a way that forecloses a path to victory in the general election, we will lose, and your name will go down in infamy.”
Obama’s former chief of staff warned Democrats that “Before our party promises health care coverage to undocumented immigrants — a position not even Ted Kennedy took — let’s help the more than 30 million Americans who are a single illness away from financial ruin. Before we start worrying about whether the Boston Marathon bomber can vote, let’s stop states that are actively trying to curtail voting rights of citizens. And before we promise a guaranteed minimum income to healthy adults who prefer to stay home and play video games, let’s increase the minimum wage and the Earned Income Tax Credit to benefit the millions of people who work hard and still live near poverty.”
However, it is unlikely many of the candidates will heed Emanuel’s warning.
The upcoming debates figure to be pile-ons where the other candidates on stage pummel Biden from the left.
That will force Biden to defend his left flank and continue to adopt positions that please Democrat primary voters, but as Emanuel points out, will slam the door shut on Biden’s chances to defeat Donald Trump in the general election.
Conservative Revival will continue to cover any new developments in the 2020 election.
