Joe Biden picked a really bad fight.
Biden came out on the losing end.
And Joe Biden just surrendered in a fight that no one saw coming.
On April 27 the Biden administration announced the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board.
So-called “disinformation expert” Nina Jankowicz would lead the board which would supposedly sniff out Russian disinformation on social media in the runup to the 2022 midterm election.
Critics on both the left and the right smelled a rat and blasted the disinformation board as a Ministry of Truth straight out of 1984.
Jankowicz was an expert at disinformation.
An expert at spreading it.
Jankowicz claimed the Steele dossier – which was a hoax – was real and then asserted that the New York Post’s reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop – which was real – was Russian disinformation.
That tipped everyone off to the fact that the true purpose of this board was to pressure social media companies to censor negative stories about Democrats – like how Facebook and Twitter blacked out the Hunter Biden laptop story – to try and boost the party’s chances of retaining power in the November elections.
Republicans threatened to file legislation to defund the disinformation board and critics lampooned the ham-fisted effort by the Biden administration to censor the internet.
But sanity prevailed.
Not only did the Biden administration shut down its Ministry of Truth, but Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accepted Jankowicz’s resignation.
The Washington Post reported:
Now, just three weeks after its announcement, the Disinformation Governance Board is being “paused,” according to multiple employees at DHS, capping a back-and-forth week of decisions that changed during the course of reporting of this story. On Monday, DHS decided to shut down the board, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation. By Tuesday morning, Jankowicz had drafted a resignation letter in response to the board’s dissolution.
But Tuesday night, Jankowicz was pulled into an urgent call with DHS officials who gave her the choice to stay on, even as the department’s work was put on hold because of the backlash it faced, according to multiple people with knowledge of the call. Working groups within DHS focused on mis-, dis- and mal-information have been suspended. The board could still be shut down pending a review from the Homeland Security Advisory Council; Jankowicz is evaluating her position within the department.
The Biden administration laughably claimed the disinformation board shutdown over disinformation.
That’s explanation is so absurd it does not even require an explanation.
Censorship is the dominant value right now in the Democrat Party.
From the corporate media to elected officials Democrats are motivated primarily by stopping conservatives from speaking online.
But on the disinformation board front Joe Biden admitted defeat.
