Democrats will go to any lengths necessary to stop Donald Trump from winning a second term.
The Biden administration made their big play.
But Joe Biden’s sick scheme to arrest Trump just blew up in his face in this major way.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel to investigate Donald Trump on the document possession dispute and the January 6 witch hunt.
Garland thought he was being clever.
By appointing a special counsel Garland thought he could make it look like he really wasn’t trying to throw Joe Biden’s chief rival in jail for political reasons.
In his statement after accepting the appointment Smith tried to keep up that nonpartisan façade.
“I intend to conduct the assigned investigations, and any prosecutions that may result from them, independently and in the best traditions of the Department of Justice,” Smith stated. “The pace of the investigations will not pause or flag under my watch. I will exercise independent judgment and will move the investigations forward expeditiously and thoroughly to whatever outcome the facts and the law dictate.”
But a quick look at Smith’s history shows he is a heat seeking missile aimed at destroying Republicans.
When Smith worked as the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section chief the DOJ’s Director of Election Crimes Branch Richard Pilger told the House Oversight Committee how Smith colluded with IRS official Lois Lerner on weaponizing the IRS to target Tea Party groups for political harassment.
“According to Mr. Pilger,” a House Oversight Committee letter read, “the Justice Department convened a meeting with former IRS official Lois Lerner in October 2010 to discuss how the IRS could assist in the criminal enforcement of campaign-finance laws against politically active nonprofits. This meeting was arranged at the direction of Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith.”
Smith also conducted a controversial and biased prosecution against Virginia Republican Governor Bob McDonnell on bribery charges.
Smith’s prosecution of McDonnell was so malicious that the Supreme Court threw it out on a unanimous vote.
“There is no doubt that this case is distasteful; it may be worse than that. But our concern is not with tawdry tales of Ferraris, Rolexes, and ball gowns. It is instead with the broader legal implications of the Government’s boundless interpretation of the federal bribery statute,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the ruling tossing Smith’s conviction of McDonnell. “A more limited interpretation of the term ‘official act’ leaves ample room for prosecuting corruption, while comporting with the text of the statute and the precedent of this Court.”
Merrick Garland exposed this prosecution as a partisan sham by appointing a trusted ideological ally to target Donald Trump.
