Chief of Staff Ron Klain and White House Senior Counselor Cedric Richmond defended Harris calling the stories a “whisper campaign” designed to “sabotage” Harris.
“White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain told Axios in a statement: “The President’s trust and confidence in her is obvious when you see them in the Oval Office together.” Biden senior adviser Cedric Richmond said in an interview late Thursday night: “It’s a whisper campaign designed to sabotage her.” Axios reported.
Harris could survive bad poll numbers on the border.
Joe Biden campaigned on opening the border.
But what Harris cannot overcome are poll numbers showing Donald Trump beating Harris in a hypothetical head-to-head 2024 matchup.
In an interview on Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo cited survey data from Donald Trump’s pollster showing Trump leading Harris by four points.
“At this point, the only thing Kamala Harris is running for is her life, from the Old Executive Office Building. Look, the real reason they’re worried, and no one has really reported this widely, John McLaughlin did a poll pitting Trump against Kamala Harris. Trump beats her 49% to 45%. That’s why they’re panicking in the West Wing.” Arroyo explained.
Harris’ poor performance as border czar forced Democrats to reckon with the fact that Harris never exhibited topflight political skills in the first place.
Biden picked Harris off the scarp heap to be his running mate after her 2020 Presidential campaign ended in embarrassment.
Harris dropped out of the race in 2019because Harris’ poll numbers and fundraising tanked.
It was important for Harris to drop out of the race before the California primary because a dismal showing would have derailed any future national ambitions.
After Biden picked Harris as his running mate the campaign largely hid her away from the public scheduling as few events where Harris would face unscripted questions.
As Democrats now contemplate the possibility of Harris as the 2024 nominee polling data showing Trump beating Harris could lead to Democrats replacing Harris as their standard bearer.
